Sarafina

Sarafina, whose name means "Bright Star" in Swahili, is the mother of Nala. Rarely seen, she is commonly overlooked by many Lion King fans. However, Sarafina was present during the Pridelands' best and worst times, contributing to its greatness in her own way.

During the presentation of Simba, Sarafina was among the lionesses expressing respect during the ceremony. Later, she is seen bathing Nala as Simba attempts to fool Sarabi into allowing him an escape to the elephant graveyard. But only days later, Sarafina and the others hear Scar's report over the death of Mufasa and Simba.

Years afterwards, Simba returns to Pride Rock full-grown. He orders Nala to summon his mother along with the other lionesses. When she does so, one of those "other lionesses" is Sarafina, aiding a wounded Sarabi freshly beaten by an angry Scar. She observes the harsh interrogation Simba is thrust with by his uncle and participates in the violent battle following soon after. After Scar is defeated by his nephew, Sarafina greets her future son-in-law as he descends Pride Rock.

According to these experiences, Sarafina is the best friend of Sarabi, a caring "godmother" to Simba, and the brave parent of Nala, not to mention her genes greatly contributed to Nala's looks.
