(Scar addresses the lionesses in front of Pride Rock.)

Mufasa's death was a terrible tragedy. But to lose Simba...who had barely begun to live...

(Scene of the lionesses with Zazu. Sarabi's head is bent low. Nala rubs against her mother's foreleg, tears running down her cheeks.)

...For me, it is a deep, personal loss. And so, it is with a heavy heart that I assume the throne. (Changing tone) Yet, out of the ashes of this tragedy, we shall rise to greet the dawning of a new era... (The hyenas lurk behind him, laughing. The lionesses gasp in alarm. Scar ascends Pride Rock as the hyenas appear in full array.) ...in which lion and hyena rise together, in a great and glorious future.

(Rafiki is shown a distance away in a squatting position with his head bent low. He slowly shakes his head.)

Ooh...

(Scene changes to Rafiki squatting under the shelter of his tree, wiping away a tear. He finds the painting of Simba he drew on the trunk, and with some reluctance, rubs his hand across it, thereby leaving a smear.)
