~Storyline

Balto is a wolf/dog from Nome, Alaska, but because he is half wolf, nobody (except Jenna, Boris, Rosy, Muk, and Luk) trusts him. He was ridiculed by Steele, Nikki, Kaltag, and Star (who don't really even like Steele).

But when a diphtheria epidemic strikes Nome, and there is not enough medicine, Balto has a chance to prove himself. There is a race the next morning to see who will get the medicine, and bring it back to Nome.

Although Balto wins this race, he is not chosen for the team, because Steele made him look vicious.

Steele is picked for the team, but when they slide down and icy slope, the musher is knocked unconscious, and the team is lost.

When Balto hears about the team, worse, that the medicine can't get through, he, Boris, Muk, and Luk go in search of the lost team. Deep into the woods, they get attacked by a huge, angry, black bear. Balto is almost lost, when Jenna comes, and distracts the bear.

Balto lures the bear onto the ice, only to fall under. Muk, and Luk, the polar bears who think that they can't swim, dive under to save him.

They emerge safely with Balto, who soon wakes up.

"You guys should learn how to swim, someday," jokes Balto, "You'd be very good at it."

"We were in the water, we were moving, we got wet," said Muk, "and Luk! We were swimming!"

Unfortunately, Jenna is hurt, and Muk, Luk and Boris have to take her home, but before Balto goes on, Jenna gives him her bandanna, and Boris tells him something.

"Balto, a dog can not make this journey alone, but maybe, a wolf can."

Balto keeps going, marking the trail along the way, and he soon finds Steele and the team. At first, Steele wouldn't let him take the team or antitoxin, but Balto accidentally pushed Steele over the edge. Steele survived the drop, and, on his way back to Nome, he messed up the trail Balto had marked.

Balto led the team into a forest, but seeing all of the trees marked, he kept taking them in circles. He soon led them to a cliff.

The antitoxin fell off of the sled, and Balto leaped out of his harness to grab it. He caught it, but unfortunately, he was standing on a ledge to thin to hold him and the antitoxin, so he fell. Luckily, he and the medicine were unharmed. Balto lay down, ready to give up, when he sees a white wolf (the spirit of his mother?). She howls to him, but when he refuses to howl back, she turnes to leave.

The wolf spirit left a pawprint that almost exactly matched Balto's. Boris' words echoed in Balto's mind.

"Let me tell you something, Balto. A dog can not make this journey alone, but maybe a wolf can."

Balto howls back to the snow wolf, and she reappears. Encouraged by the wolf, Balto drags the medicine up to the sled, and the team makes it safely back home.

Balto is no longer a reject or outcast, but a hero.
