Old Logs -- Jan 1998 to Nov 1999
Note: A hard drive crash destroyed my collection of Salem logs. These
have been either scavenged or donated. If you happen to have any I don't
have here, please e-mail them to
me.
Many thanks to Kaz,
by the way, who pointed me toward The Internet Archive, whose
WayBack machine (heh) let me access my old website on Byte-Me the way it used to be. I
also picked up a few of these from the JJ Malone collection of
logs. Rock.
- Harbor Park, First Day Out
(Jan 1,
1998)
New Ronin in town, Salem hangs out in the park and has his first
glimpse of Sally MacKay.
- Morgan at the Wharf
(Jan 5, 1998)
Morgan, of pack Edge, runs into Salem while on patrol.
- Charlie's Tavern and Sally
MacKay
(Jan 11, 1998)
Salem gets a beer at Charlie's, frightens people, and meets up with
Sally again. They arrange a deal and begin what would turn out to be a
highly rocky (and ultimately platonic) relationship.
- Merria
(Jan 12, 1998)
Merria later became the one Bone gnawer Salem ever thought highly
of, but he didn't think very highly of her at their first meeting. Then
again, he wasn't at his best, either.
- A Business Arrangement
(Jan 15, 1998)
Sally bumps into Salem again; the Ronin is coming off of the full moon and
the controlled substance abuse that came with it. Actually, this month he
didn't have any, being new to the city and without contacts. Sally becomes
the first of said contacts.
- Gwyneth, Part I
(Jan 16, 1998) Every
Garou needs to date a Mage at least one point in their life, neh? This is
how Salem's relationship with Gwyneth started, or at least it's the first
time they met.
- Brought to Heel
(Jan 17, 1998)
Morgan, Alpha of Edge and badass Fury From Hell, makes a wayward Ronin an
offer he's not allowed to refuse. At least, not if he wants to stay in
town.
- A Bad Day
(Jan 18, 1998) Salem finds
that Sally is, indeed, affected by the Curse, and then has a discouraging
run-in with Thomas. Having a 9 Rage can really cramp on one's ability to
socialize.
- Frustration
Sally gives Salem the
name of someone who can help him get what he needs for the next full moon,
but it's all business. Sally doesn't know Salem's a Garou, and has never
felt the Curse quite his badly. Later, in the Rialto, Morgan quizzes the
Ronin about vampires.
- Answers
(Jan 19, 1998)
Salem plays loose with the Litany to give Sally some answers, then
finds out she's Kinfolk after all. He offers her an outcast's view of Garou
life.
- Respect the Territory of Another
(Jan
19, 1998) Merria invites Salem to the Forgotten Church, and the Ronin steps
all over Elan's offered hospitality. What a bastard.
- A Fianna, a Gazer, and Pete Barlow
(Jan 21, 1998) A chat with Seirian in Harbor Park. Then Sally introduces
him to Casper, who acts strangely. Later, Chugs bitches Salem out for
messing with Elan.
- Broken Trust
(Jan 22, 1998)
Sally's intentions are good, but a paranoid Salem reacts badly.
- Regrets and Pizza
(Jan 23, 1998) Salem
comes close to apologizing to Merria for his abuse of Elan, and the little
Gnawer treats him to pizza. Sally, still sporting a bruise, shows up with
friends.
- Arlen
(Jan 24, 1998)
The Edge pack had finally taken Salem in hand, and he was (somewhat
unwillingly) staying at the Rialto. He meets Arlen, a Black Fury.
- Charlie's
(Jan 25, 1998) Scene in a
bar. Salem's mostly brooding in the background.
- Harbor Park, Sally MacKay, a snowball, and Merria
(Jan 26, 1998)
Long, but a favorite. Lots of folks in the park. Sally plays games,
Salem nearly loses it. Merria's there too... thankfully.
- Morgan
(Jan 29, 1998) A short chat
with Morgan.
- Truce?
(Jan 29, 1998) Sally doesn't
seem to know how to leave well enough alone, so Salem lays down some ground
rules. Well, one ground rule, anyway.
- This is a wolf. This is not a
dog.
(Jan 31, 1998)
Here we see the less-disfunctional side of Salem's relationship with
Sally. Salem gives the Kin a demonstration of the lupus-form difference
between him and the Bone Gnawers that he sneers at.
- Clash of Egos
(Feb 2, 1998) Ex-Shadow
Lord squares off with Silver Fang. Neither end up very impressed with the
other.
- Slumming
(Feb 4, 1998) Salem
socializes with Edge.
- Luna's Bitch
(Feb 8, 1998) Sally makes
the mistake of trying to visit with a high-Rage Ronin when the moon's near
full and waxing.
- Runaway Ronin
(Feb 8, 1998)
When Edge goes off on a cubnapping, Salem takes off for a little
privacy. The pack hunts him down.
- The Morning After
(Feb 9, 1998)
The next morning, Morgan lays down the law.
- True-Blue
(Feb 10, 1998) Merria
brings
a care package to the captive Ronin.
- Luna's Bitch, Take Two
(Feb 14, 1998)
Another not-quite-so-cozy little scene with Morgan. The moon's still full,
and Salem gets no crutches.
- The Cleansing
(Feb 15, 1998) Morgan
drags Salem out to the woods and enlists the help of Sepdet to get rid of
the Ronin's Umbral piggybackers.
- Sparring
(Feb 17, 1998) Possibly the
last day stuck in the warehouse, and Morgan decides to entice Salem into a
bit of fisticuffs.
- Freedom. And a Plan
(Feb 19, 1998)
His freedom returned to him, Salem gets a visit from Merria and
announces to her and Barlow his intention to join the Glass Walkers.
- Gwyneth, Part II
(Feb 21, 1998) In
which Salem runs into the woman again, and discovers that she's more than
she appears. For example, she can turn off his Rage. (!)
- The Pool Hall
(Feb 23, 1998) A little
of Sally, a little of Merria, and some of Reggie, too!
- Dylan
(Date Unknown) A chance encounter
of utterly opposite personalities.
- JJ Malone
(Feb 24, 1998) Salem calls
up the local Glass Walker Elder and arranges a meeting.
- The Pool Hall
(Exact Date Unknown)
Salem hangs out at the pool hall where Sally works and gets to play bouncer.
- Sarah
(Feb 28, 1998) Trading banter
with a high-ranking Uktena can make for an interesting evening.
- Pool Hall
(Mar 1, 1998) More stuff at
the pool hall. Sally tries to sell Reggie on the idea of Salem as bouncer,
Merria stops by with a gift, and the Ronin relays news to JJ Malone. Plus
other stuff.
- Slapped Down
(Mar 2, 1998) Salem goes
to talk to Chugs about the upcoming Revel and is disappointed.
- Gwyneth, Part III
(Mar 3, 1998) A
cozy little scene in the Dark Wine and Roses.
- Gwyneth, Part IV
(Mar 13, 1998) In
which Gwyneth shows that even Mages can make mistakes. In this case, a
near-fatal one.
- Bastard
(Mar 22, 1998) Salem continues
to break ties with Sally and generally acts like a total prick.
- Gwynth, Part V
(Mar 23, 1998) In a
word, angst. I don't know if they ever reconciled, but I don't think they
did. Sad.
- More 'Family'
(Mar 24, 1998) Salem
meets more Glass Walkers. And has his first encounter with Rina, too. Talk
about unfriendly.
- Xandra
(Mar 25, 1998) Salem makes a
little girl nervous. No big surprise there.
- Swearwords and Spittle
(Mar 25, 1998)
More Salem-Sally antagonism, with Xandra and Kevin Sterling as
witnesses.
- Playing with Fire
(Mar 28, 1998) After
a pleasant enough chat with Kyle, Salem encounters Morgan and friend.
Things get snappy and vicious, fast.
- Day After
(Mar 29, 1998) Morgan
confronts Salem about yesterday.
- Banter and Mockery
(Apr 1998)
Harbor Park. Again. Salem, Sally, and some of Kyle as well.
- The Water-Beast
(Apr 7, 1998) Bad shit
goes down in Harbor Park. This is the scene JJ's refers to (in the next
log) when asking if Salem was high last Tuesday. Mmm, Thrall-frenzy.
- Drugs are bad, mmmmmkay?
(Apr 13, 1998)
J.J. Malone finds out about Salem's dirty little full-moon habit.
- Murphy
(Jun 2, 1998) Glass Walker
John Murphy quizzes Salem about the Ronin's choice of tribes.
- Angelo
(Jun 28, 1998) Two Garou bait
each other in the coffee shop and nearly come to blows. Merria -- gotta
love her -- gets between the pair of them.
- Post-Raid Meeting
(Jul 16, 1998)
To prove his worth to the Glass Walkers, Salem -- among other things
-- contributes to a scouting raid. Here he, Jeff, and Jayson give Malone
the skinny.
- Walker Moot
(Jul 23, 1998)
At Malone's insistence, a reluctant Salem tells his sordid history
to the tribe.
- Cub-Training
(Sep 10, 1998) Salem
starts the process of teaching Brandon how to fight.
- More Cub-Taining
(Sep 17, 1998) ... See
above, only with Daisy.
- Brennain
(Sep 23, 1998) Overconfidence
can be a bitch.
- Lisa
(Oct 1, 1998) Lisa
Bullet-to-the-Knees is a Walker Ragabash. This scene takes place after the
battle in which Malone lost the use of his legs.
- The Death of Joshua Black
(Oct 11, 1998)
By this time, Salem was officially a Glass Walker. Here, he and two
others go to have a little "chat" with a Shadow Lord who's
suspected of homicidal tendencies. Things don't go quite as planned,
however.
- Consequences
(Oct 15, 1998)
Malone chews Salem, Jeff, and Nigel out for their clumsy handling of
the Black affair. This was after Malone had lost use of his legs, and
that little detail is discussed alone with Nigel later.
- Moon Otter
(Nov 3, 1998) Salem goes out
to the woods to inform the Shadow Lord elder about the death of Joshua
Black.
- Rite of the Winter Wolf
(Nov 3, 1998)
J.J. Malone undergoes the Rite of the Winter Wolf.
