At night, I look to the stars and sky
My eyes tear as I stare in my grass bed where I lye
A gust of wind sweeps my breath away

The wind twirls my mane into chaotic majesty
The dirt below my paws shifts with its frailty
A patch of beautiful fluttering flower peddles sail by
The sweet scent of the jungle fruit penetrates the air and I sigh

So many things run through my mind
Thoughts about life, death, and life’s daily grind
But tonight brings a different thought
A feeling that only through time can I be taught

I lay my head down on the soft blades of green
I close my eyes and tears tickle my whiskers as they stream
Dreams of a beautiful creature enter my mind
The memories I hold in my heart and soul so divine

A light brush against my cheek startles my slumber
I raise my head and stare in wonder
The being in my dreams stands in the fur
And from her I can hear the harmonious purr

I look at her and I see the lioness
That I took as my friend so dearest
She extends a paw to my face
But I’m reluctant to her embrace

She reaches farther to my muzzle
And her paw touches as she nuzzles
My eyes close in a brief moment of pain
And I cry for the first time in my many years of disdain

I had forgotten who I was to all of my pride
Now every dream I have you are there inside
You came to me and showed me there was a way
To love and care again some day

I will never forget the night
When you made my life so bright
When you touched my face and made me sob
When you looked at me and made my heart throb

I finally found my sunshine on the planes
I found my way through the rain
Together we will live and love
Together, Nala… we will be higher than the spirits above

I want to kiss you
I want to caress you
I want to see you
