Here's a little Nuka fanfic I wrote...enjoy! ;) ~~~ An Goodbye Uncared For Nuka lay under the stars in his termite mound home. These days, the termites didn't matter. The thing that bothered him most was that his mother paid not one bit of attention to him. Earlier, he had been noticed by almost everyone, even Vitani; who was sleeping in a little curled ball in the cave. Nuka was awake, the only one awake, and he wasn't sleepy. He could hear the loud snoring of all the other lionesses, and his mother, Zira, who was sleeping nearby the newborn Kovu's stump bed. That cub was chosen to take over Scar's place in the Pride Lands, and Nuka was angry. Very angry. He was indeed the oldest, so he needed to be the "chosen one." Now that Kovu is around, Nuka will be forgotten--just another termite in this forsaken place. That's why Zira never pays attention to him. Vitani gets the attention as well. But he can't do anything to change it; Zira guards Kovu like a force field. And Vitani is her most loyal server, so even when Nuka brings the news, Vitani gets the praise. Nuka sighed, and, after a long while gazing at the sky, he went back inside the cave. ~ The next morning, Nuka woke up earliest. He stretched and scratched his mangy body, trying to rid himself of the pesky termites. They keep coming back, those little rascals, he thought to himself. He walked out stalkingly as usual, denting the ground with every step. The day was hot, like Africa is in the dry season. But in the Outlands, it is always the dry season. Somehow, the rain just doesn't get to this place. He walked to an almost completely dried-up waterhole and took a drink. The water tasted horrible, like any other water from a waterhole from miles around. Just then, he was startled by Vitani scampering out of the cave. She galloped around Nuka and laughed. "Good morning!" she yelled playfully. Nuka rolled his eyes, knowing that Vitani didn't mean it. He tried to get away from his sister, but she kept following him. Annoyed, he ran away from the cave. Vitani laughed again, and then turned around at a sound she heard. It was Zira with Kovu in her mouth. She was taking him for a walk, like every morning. Vitani smiled, and trotted over to Zira. "Good morning, Mother!" she said. Zira put down Kovu and smiled at her daughter. She didn't even ask where Nuka was. Kovu explored his home, and before he got too far, Zira grabbed him in her mouth again. Vitani watched as the two of them strayed away from the termite mound. She turned around and headed toward a tree with a root that was sticking out. Vitani's favorite activity, other than to pester Nuka, was to chew on roots. Her teeth were in perfect condition, and she wanted it to stay that way. The other Outsiders knew that that was a great way of cleaning teeth, but none of them would chew on the root of a tree that they didn't even know what happened to. Vitani grabbed the root and began to violently chew on it. This is a tough one, she thought. The roots she usually chewed were soft. Maybe the dry season is kicking in again. Thoughts raced through her head, and after a while, she saw Nuka return. "You're still here?" he asked, very unhappy. "Well duh, smart guy. Whaddaya think, I'd leave?" she answered, letting go of the wet stick. She licked her teeth with her tongue and scratched herself behind the ears. Nuka growled. "When will you leave me alone?" he asked. "When you aren't here anymore, that's when," Vitani replied. Nuka stomped away in calm fury. Vitani walked back into the cave. ~ Soon, Zira and Kovu returned. Kovu instantly hopped into the cave and started playing with Vitani. Zira smiled to herself. "He's just full of energy," she muttered. Nuka came back once again, and this time he was relieved that Vitani wasn't there. "Hi Mother!" he cried, bounding up to her. Zira ignored him and watched Kovu to make sure he and Vitani were playing safely together. "Mother?" Nuka asked, coming closer. No answer from Zira. Nuka sighed and walked up right parallel to her. Zira finally turned to him and grumbled. "Go away," she snarled. Nuka was shocked. This was something he heard many times, but never so angrily. "I must watch Kovu. Why don't you go and do something on your own?" Zira asked. Nuka turned very angry. "Mother, look at what you are saying! I am your son, too, you know! Don't you understand? What am I, something invisible? You never gave me a chance to at least be strong and healthy. I am scratching myself, full of termites, because of YOU! You probably raised me to watch me die, didn't you?" Zira stared at him in shock. Nuka was on the verge of crying. "I only asked for love, but you gave me none. Why am I here? I have had enough of this. You don't even accept me. So tell Vitani and everyone else that I'm leaving, and I will never come back! I'll go somewhere where no one notices me and I can feel normal about it. My own mother acting like this. Goodbye." Nuka ran away into the mist, breathing heavily with every stride. Zira's face changed to a different tone. She padded a little bit forward, and whispered to herself: "Nuka, I'm sorry. I tried…"
