They ran faster than they ever had before, swiftly down that mountain of death, into the sun drenched valley below.Kurabi followed his mother, trying his best to keep up. Swazi, the head of the Sivabu pride army, was soon closing in fast, as the heat of the African sun was beginning to take effect. Swazi swiped at Kurabi and his mother as they fled for their lives. Satara was tiring and struggled t keep moving onward. They could view the ruggrd banks of the Kube river ahead, the only way across was to cross a log from a long dead acacia tree. Kurabi quickly scampered across the log to safety on the opposite bank. His mother did her best to keep up, making it halfway across. Just as she was midway across the river, she tripped on a branch. Kurabi watched in horror as his mother screamed and fell on the log. Kurabi gasped as he watched his mother hanging on for dear life, and thern screamed as Kashi appeared through the mist. Kurabi quickly disappeared behind a boulder and peered out at the grizzly scene. Satara dangled from the log and looked up in fear as Kashi approached. "SATARA!!!!" -he cried. "You can't run from me. You have a duty to uphold .""YOU ARE MINE-NOW!" "Never Kashi", Satara screamed.You will not take me alive!" "I will die before I become your personal SERVANT!" Kashi dug his claws into Satara's flesh. She cried out in pain. He picked her up by the scruff of her neck with his powerful claws and dragged her towards the bank of the river. Satara struggled against the mighty force of Kashi, a force quite possibly more powerful than the river itself. As they reached the bank of the Kube River Kashi stopped. He grinned evily, and beat Satara to the ground. Shaking in fear, all she could do was close her eyes as the horrific figure of Kashi loomed over her. He glared at Satara, placing his forepaw on her neck. Kashi grinned evily down at Satara and remarked, "I never thought I would be able to say this." "YOU ARE MINE NOW SATARA!!!""Your mate was a FOOL! And stole the one thing that held me together Satara. And now you will all feel the wrath of Kashi. You will all pay the price for your actions." "If I can't have you, I will force you to be mine." "Come with me Satara, be my queen and we will soar to the stars." "LEAVE ME ALONE KASHI-YOU BRUTE!" "When Maasi comes he'll rip you apart." Kashi laughed and looked Satara in the eye. "I don't think your mate will be much more of a threat to me Satara." "Ha!"- "Isn't REVENGE so sweet?" "I had this planned all along. Ever since that day your mate foolishly banished me from these lands, I have been waiting for that day, for that one glorious moment when I would have MY REVENGE!" "And that day has come" [slightly lessening his harsh tone] "MY DEAR!" Kashi forced her up and then quickly beat her savagely to the ground. Kashi laughed as he ravaged her, proud of his accomplishment, of his 'day in the sun.'Satara screamed and tried to free herself from him. She saw Kurabi out of the corner of her eye and shouted, "RUN Kurabi, there isn't anything you can do to help me- "Save yourself, my son. I love you" Kurabi looked one more time at his mother as Kashi beat her to the ground and with tears in his eyes ran quickly away. Several of the cheetah guards ran after him. Kurabi headed down the river bank and turned into the gorge. One of the cheetah guards said "Let em go man, the 'yenas will get em in deh gorge." "But Kashi told us to kill em," another guard replied. "Well he'll be dead before sunrise anyway, why risk our hides as well. You know a pack of outcast cheetahs is nothing to take lightly, especially trapped in a gorge." "Those mongrels will do the job for us." Satara continued to hold on for her life, the river raging below her. Kashi roared, "Satara-you have violated the terms of our agreement" "Why Satara?" "Why couldn't you just stayed with me?" "We could have made a great team, me a King, and you as queen."Why Satara? - Why did you have to make it difficult for me?" "None of this would have had to happen." Satara looked at Kashi, and growled, "DO You think that after what you did to me when we were seeing each other, I would EVER LET YOU NEAR ME KASHI?" "You are a horrible TYRANT, Kashi, and you deserve nothing more than DEATH! "Is that so Satara?" "Me a tyrant?" Kashi chuckled. "I appreciate the compliment." "But seriously, I think I have warned you enough. I told you and your mate the consequences of going against the terms we had agreed upon. But you both took my threat lightly. Well well looks like I'm the one who is laughing now Satara. And looks like your pride needs to be shown who the king is now, and what happens to those who break agreements. You have no choice Satara. Either join me and be my queen or die." atara looked at the water far below, and then back at Kashi. "Never Kashi. I will not let you near me without a fight." "Maasi is the one I love, and you will not take that love away from me-EVEN IF IT MEANS DEATH." Kashi grinned and glared at Satara. "Very well Satara-but remember, you have chosen your OWN FATE." "Despite what you think, I can be a nice guy Satara, after all I did offer you a chance to be my queen, but you refused, and I will not let any other have you but me." Kashi raised his paw and with a powerful blow, struck Satara, knocking her to the ground. Satara gripped the log and tried to escape, but it was too late. She looked at the stars in the sky, saying a silent prayer, and the setting sun on the horizon and then at the ominous figure of Kashi looming over her. "You might take my life Kashi, but you will not take my soul, and will never take my dignity and pride." "These things will live on with my son, and one day, you will meet the maker Kashi, and will find out that evil is the wrong path." Kashi laughed evily, and looked Satara in the eye. \ "I don't think I will have much to worry about Satara." "You are the one who is standing in my way, the one barrier to my power, and all barriers crumble. The Albasani pride is no more Satara, you are the last vestige of that power." "You refuse my offer to be my queen, you wish to live to continue to block my path to the throne ?" "You wish to cause me more harm and pain than you already have? I'm sorry Satara, but I cannot accept that. There must be one pride and one ruler, there is no room for us both" Kashi growled and raised his paw claws extended."The time has come Satara, for you to join the kings in the stars, and for the Albasani pride to die out with the evening mist." Satara closed her eyes as Kashi ripped his claws through her flesh. She cried out in terror and extreme pain. With another blow, she lost her grip, and fell into the raging rapids below. The legacy of Albasani died with Satara, and Kashi stood on the bank of the river Kube, taking in the glory of his victory. He was King now. These were his lands, and nothing, there was no one who could stop him now. Kurabi ran for his life, through the frightening depths of the gorge, the shadows creeping up behind him. The eyes were everywhere, he could sense them in every crack, behind every rock, in each dark cave he passed. He looked around with frightened eyes as he ran, not knowing where he was going, but knowing that he had to get as far away from that place of death as he could. He ran and ran until he could not run anymore. Queen Satara beamed with pride as she peered down at the newborn cub. King Maasi snuggled next to his mate, and nuzzled his new son. He looked at Satara and said, "One day my love, this little one will be King!" Queen Satara smiled warmly at Maasi and then back at the little cub, nestled in her paws. This dawn was the beginning of a new Era, the beginning of a new life. This was a happy time in the Albasani jungle, far to the south of the Pridelands, across the Serenghetti plain, and the great desert. For the Albasani pride was celebrating the birth of a newborn cub, and thus a future king of the pride. Satara looked to the other cub Sabi and said, "Come over here Sabi and meet your new brother." Sabi bounded over to the little bundle of golden fur in Satara's arms. "Is dat my bwudder?" she asked. King Maasi looked over to his daughter and replied, "He certainly is. And you know what?" "What?" Maasi smiled at Satara and answered, "One day you will be united together, and will have cubs of your own." Satara grinned and looked over at her daughter, "That's right dear, one day you two will be married just as your daddy and I are." Satara then turned her attention to the members of the pride gathered around her. " "Today is the dawning of a new era for our pride. "A new king has been born!" "Let us rejoice."
