Two princes were born into the Pride Lands - Mufasa
and his brother. But when these two brothers were born,
a terrible drought hit the lands. The entire Kingdom was
facing the danger of famine.Rafiki carefully studied the
two cubs. He gave Mufusa his blessings, but he
discovered the younger of the two brothers was filled
with an air of chaos and uncertainty; plus, the drought
happened right after he was born.
Rafiki predicted that the younger cub would bring
disaster. He advised Ahadi not to keep the young cub
to avoid bringing bad luck to the Pride Lands.
Ahadi was skeptical about Rafiki's words. Looking at the
cub's fragile body, he was most worried about the lack of
food during the famine. If he abandoned the cub he might
be able to save some food for the others. But, to discard
such a little cub was such a cruel thing to do. Ahadi
tried to comfort herself.
The cub couldn't survive for long;
besides, he's not the successor of the throne¡K
After talking with Rima, the two finally decided to
abandon their younger son. So, in the silence of night,
Ahadi picked up his little cub, and left it
on the dry plain, alone...
Two vultures circled above where the little cub lay.
One of them glided low to see if it was still alive.
The cub was awakened by the sudden gush of wind
and the shrill call of the vulture.
Before he could see what was going on, he was hit by the
diving vulture. His little body rolled on the ground.
He struggled back to his feet, his instinct told him to
run. The vultures saw his escape, and commenced their
attack. Sharp talons grabbed at the cub's head; the cub
dodged quickly, but the talon sliced across his left
eyelids, and left a deep, bloody mark. The cub's
strength was about to drained, but suddenly an old,
empty tree trunk appeared. The lion cub squeezed himself
into the narrow shelter, hiding from his attackers.
After another few vain attacks, the vultures flapped
their wings and left. The cub covered his scarred eye,
suppressing his pain, and slowly remembered¡K
He knew his father had cold-bloodedly abandoned him.
Why? Was he not meant to exist?
Was he never meant to be born?
If it wasn't for his strong will,
he would have been dead¡K
The cub did not understand why he was abandoned.
He only knew he had to go back¡K
He wanted to know why. And he wanted revenge¡K
The next morning, when Ahadi awoke, and walked out
of the den, the pain from last night was already
buried deeply inside his heart. He had to
concentrate on other matters.
Suddenly, a lion cub appeared on the Pride Rock,
and struggled toward him slowly.
Was that his son?
Ahadi could not believe his eyes.
How could a lone lion cub make its way back
from the plain so far away!? The cub's body was
painted with scratches, and a deep scar ran across
his eye; but it was him¡K he was alive.
The cub had made it home, with bravery, persistence,
and intelligence.
Ahadi and Rima both saw it as destiny.
Fate did not take their child's life.
Ahadi decided to raise the cub, and disregarded
any further ideas of getting rid of the cub.
Rima took good care of her son.
Because of the cut across his eye, he was named "Scar"¡K
