while the song is rumored to be about a former girlfriend, this rendition of slow cheetah was meant to invoke a sense of the never-ending and seemingly unnatainable. when one drives the highways around the az,ca,nv tri-state area, one seems to be on an endless road, in which they are trapped within their own thoughts--one has music but chooses not to turn it on. John Frusciante's handling of the guitar in the bridge of the song inspired the vision of the sweeping arizona landscape. the straight, narrow roads appear to point out a destination, but it is not seen or heard in the vast landscape.
