Setting: In the year 1997, five of Balto's orphan yearling descendants (the females: Pensive, Regret, and Io, and the males: Alkali and Tyto) are resting around the great statue of Balto in Central Park, NY. Suddenly their oldest brother, Falco, returns from his quest to Nome, Alaska. Falco is shaken, having experienced the most 'ghostly' experience.

"Just think, in a few days we have to go back to Harry Potter," mused Io to her siblings, thinking of their beloved master. Suddenly, she went stiff, her nose sniffing the air, her paw curled up like a pointer's. "Look!" cried Io joyfully. "Look who's coming!"

"FALCO!" called the yearlings, rushing onto their oldest brother.

"Hello," said Falco weakly, laying down in sphinx-position.

"Look, Falco!" said Pensive, pointing her paw at the great monument. "We found Balto's statue!"

The falcon-colored wolf (who, like his siblings, had traces of dog blood in his veins), glanced at the statue. He started trembling, whimpering like an eight-week-old puppy.

"Falco! Falco! What's wrong?" asked Regret, staring at her brother.

"I-I-saw him!" the yearling whimper, pointing at the bronze wolf-dog.

"Him? Oh, but Falco, that's silly. He's been dead since 1933. It must have been some other dog," shrugged Alkali.

"It...was.... a Malamute breed. Black-and-white."

"Well, then, it can't Balto. He's a gray-brown. Don't you remember that animated movie we saw on tape last year?" asked Tyto, shrugging his shoulders.

The wolf continue to tremble, so Pensive said calmly: "Tell us what happened, Falco. You don't have to talk. Just howl it."

The pups nodded. Falco stood up, took a deep breath, and then started howling. (Howling is the song of the wolf.) The pups listened quietly to his song.

FALCO:

"I was stumblin' my way back from Cincinnati.
Had my sled-harness on my back.
When a stranger came up beside me with fur of snow and black.
He looked like he as from 1925.
Malamute cross with yellow eyes.
He said: "It's a long walk to Nome, would like a friend, son?

Well, I walked over to his side, and he started to howl.
Them sad ol' songs comin' outta of that muzzle were solid lupine gold.
And then I noticed the stranger had a ghost-gold gleam when he asked if I needed a rest.
And I knew there was something strange about this quest.

He said "Falco, can you save folks lives by pulling a sled?
Can you find the sled team, do you take heed to your dreams?
Can you survive using just your head?
He said: "Pup, do listen to the white wolf that's inside?
And if you're big star bound let me warn you it's a long hard ride."

Well, he cried just south of Nenana, and his turned his head around.
He said: "This is were you get of boy,
'Cause I'm going back to Cleveland, Ohio."
Well I left his side and I said: "Mister, many thanks. Without you, I'd still be in the snow."

He said: "You don't have to call me mister, my heir. The whole world calls me Balto!

If you're big star bound let me warn you it's a long hard ride.
If you're big star bound, let me warn you-"

Falco turned his head around. "I got it covered," he said, glancing at the chanting pups.

They glanced up at the great statue knowing that he had made his ghastly rounds that night.

The End

Author Note: I bet you thought that I was talking about Steele when I said 'fur of snow

and black" and "Malamute cross." I hoped you liked my little 'red herring.' (Those were his real colors, in case you’re wondering.)

What did I make this filk (just in case you're wondering, a 'filk' is a term {when one changes a song to met their favorite characters {originally created by the Lord of the Rings fans} It is now often used in Harry Potter terms, and now some Balto ones!) into more of an original story? Because I was afraid that SIlver Wolf wouldn't post it if it was just a simple filk. I like the way it turned out. Also, I used Balto's real death-year for this filk (in my fanfics, it's 1944, not the actual year of 1944.)

I hoped you like this. If Silver Wolf posts this, than I'll gladly make more! -EbonyPatriot
