CHAPTER ONE

A wolf howled. Balto looked up and sighed.

"Boris?"

"Don't Fret, Fido." Boris said.

"It's Tomorrow. You know how much I hate the humans so close to me! I'm no lapdog." Balto said.

"If you were, you'd need a pretty big lap." Balto allowed himself a chuckle that soon faded off.

"Balto? What is it? This wolf buisness again? or the race? Jenna?" Pried Boris.

"Don't remind me. The race is tomorrow, and they're expecting me to show up in the race again. Jenna's going to enter, And there's another half wolf. It's another round of Diptheria. They're running out of Anti-Toxin again. Rosie's whole family has it now. It's just like last time, But more serious because they still haven't recovered. I don't think I can do it again." Said Balto. Balto and Boris exchanged grim looks. The only dog that new the way from Nome to Nenana was the inevitable. Steele. If Balto couldn't show up for the race, they would host Steele and that would give the other dogs of nome another reason to tease Balto. Balto couldn't let that happen, and the first eight dogs would pull the sled to Nenana again. Jenna would be one of those dogs, because her leg from the first time Balto went out had healed. Balto would make sure she was on the team if he went. It was silently decided. Balto would run the race and win again.

"I think I'll turn in..." Balto yawned.
