Amazing Grace

This story takes place after Steele met Jade, the pug.
All had gone pretty well with the two. They were actually a lot alike and were planning on being mates for a while. Then one day Jade met Steele in the Boiler Room for an " important talk". They met there that night. "Steele I ...." she looked as though she was going to cry.
"What is it, Jade?" The pug got up the courage to speak.
She took a deep breath. " Steele, my owner has lost his job as a blacksmith here. He says we have to go to a place the humans call Virginia, and he's taking me with him."
Steele was utterly speechless. The only girl who had ever wanted to be his since the diphtheria incident and the way he treated Balto, the only girl who'd ever understood him, was out of the picture forever. "Jade, I'm so sorry. Maybe you'll find another mate in Virginia."
"IT WON"T BE THE SAME!" she cried. They both weeped for a long time. The next day, Jade was gone.
Steele was a real wreck the next few months. Balto and the gang tried to comfort the heart-broken hound with countless bones, chewtoys, and pats on the back. None of it helped much. Finally Balto told Jenna he had to go and find his pal a mate. "It's gotta be done or he'll never be the same.", he told her.
He and Boris went out to find Nava and Niju. They asked them if they knew any wolves who needed a mate. Nava knew of one. " Her name is Grace. The others make fun of her because she cannot see. She has been so hurt by their taunts that she has sometimes talked of taking her own life."
Balto thought about this for a moment. "Steele has been desperate too. And he's finally been able to make friends with wolves."
"He sometimes visits Niju and I in the forest. So he would be a good match for her." The four of them ( Boris was there too ) worked out a plan to get them together.
Several days later.........
"Ok Steele. You can open your eyes now." He gasped. She was the most beautiful wolf he'd ever seen in his entire life. She was a grey wolf with a white underside and tan on the bridge of her nose. Because she was blind, the pupils of her eyes were white instead of black.
"Steele, this is the Grace we've been talking about. Her pack won't accept her, so maybe you will." Her beautiful voice spoke.
"Hello, Steele. Nava and Niju have talked so much about you. I'm so happy to finally meet someone who cares. What do you look like?" "Well, I'm black and white and I have blue eyes. I'm big and strong and really fast."
"That is just the kind of man I've always dreamed of." "And you're the kind of girl I've always dreamed of."
They each broke into a huge grin. Everyone in the room, especially Steele and Grace, knew they were soul mates. Even though they had just met, there was a special something nice in the air that told them the other was the special one. They moved a little closer together and kissed; however dogs kiss that is.
*That, my friends, is the beginning of a beautiful relationship . I will definitely make more stories on this couple.
