Here I Am
by She-Wolf

*this story takes on a midevil setting. Also, the Balto characters in this story have human-like qualities: wearing clothes, living in houses, no owners, etc. I don't own any of the characters mentioned here.*

(Balto is asleep) He is in a barren field that is covered in mist. He stands there, unsure of where to go. Suddenly, out of nowhere, Iniu, the white wolf, appears. "I'm coming home, son. I'm coming home." She comes closer. "Let us leave and go now." They hold paws and begin to leave. Balto begins to hear a voice in the distance.

"Wake up, Balto! Wake up!" Then he feels cold and wet. (He wakes up)

"What happened?" He sees Jenna at the foot of his bed, holding a bucket of water.

"You were tossing and turning and talking in your sleep," she explained. "Besides, kings don't lay in bed all day."

Balto and Jenna were king and queen of a kingdom called Siria. Aleu was princess. "What were you dreaming about anyway, honey?"

"I dreamt that my mother said she was coming home. But that's impossible, for she died."

They just looked at each other for a few minutes and Jenna said, "Dreams can be odd sometimes.Get dressed and we can have breakfast." She left. Balto assumed his royal duties, but couldn't stop thinking about his mother. What if, somehow, she was still alive? Impossible. Balto continued this debate in his head throughout the day, and that night he had the same dream as he had the night before.

The following day, Boris, the messenger, rushed to Balto's throne about midday with terrible news. He bowed and said, "Your Highness, King Aklaq of Gladius wants to wage war."

"Why is that?"

"He says that a band of your villagers are stealing from his meat plantation."

"I don't like to fight, but if it's a war he wants, then so be it. Boris, tell the Military Commander to rally up the army. We're gonna fight to the death." The frantic goose went to Steele (he was the Military Commander) to carry out King Balto's order.

Soon the large army of specially trained wolves and dogs, along with Balto and Steele, was ready to fight Aklaq's army of milicious ary bears. The battle began in the valley of Gerai. Balto's victory was not far away. He was about to dash the throat of one of the soldiers, when Aklaq came up behind him and stabbed his spine. Balto gave a loud cry and fell to the ground, unconcious. Steele saw the whole thing and was on top of the bear like ugly on an ape. After he ripped and teared Aklaq to shreds, the Gladius army, along with their half-alive leader, retreated back to their kingdom. The K9s of Siria gathered around their fallen king and the commander that held him. "

Go get the docters. They'll know what to do." Steele ordered. The docters, Nikki, Kaltag ,and Star, got there as fast as they could and wisked Balto to his bedchamber. They treated and wrapped his puncture wound. They felt his spine. It was not broken, just badly bleeding. They let his family come and take a look at him, just breifly though.

Two days later he woke. The first thing he saw at the end of his bed was a smiling white wolf. "Here I am," she said in her warm, serene voice. "I told you I'd come home." Balto stared at her, mouth agape. She was twice as beautiful as she had been in his reoccurring dreams. She wore the finest gown he'd ever seen. "I am Iniu, your mother." when he got his voice,

Balto said "I thought you were dead."

Iniu shook her head. "I was barely alive. My illness was going to take my life at any given minute, but then an angel came to my bed.  It was your father, who had already passed away. He said that if I wanted, he could turn me into an angel also. I agreed. And ever since my transformation, I've been searching for you. Now that we are together again, we will never again be separated. And I will never die." Both of them started to cry as they embraced each other.

"I love you, mother." Balto murmured.

"And I love you also." Iniu replied.
