Balto & Hamtaro : Journey Through Time
by She-Wolf
*For Balto & Hamtaro fans only!*
" Hey Maxwell," asked Hamtaro " what is this do- hikey?"
"It's a time machine," he replied " We can go anywhere in the past we want."
" You know," said Bijou "I have heard many stories about a brave wolf-dog
named Balto." Hamtaro agreed.
" Yeah, he's my favorite! He saved a whole town once. Sometimes other dogs
tease him, but I think I want to be his friend."
Boss was excited. "What are we waiting for? Let's go meet him in person!"
"YEAH!!!!!" all the ham-hams yelled.
Soon they were in Balto's time period. "So where does he live?" Boss asked.
"In the movie he lived in that beached ship over there." Bijou replied.
They went over & Hamtaro knocked on the door. "Yes?" Iniu, Balto's mom,
answered. " My goodness! " she exclaimed when she saw they tiny bundles of
fur before her. "who and what are you?"
"I'm Hamtaro, & I'm a hamster. These are my friends." He introduced the
ham- hams. " We'd like to see Balto, please."
"ok. Come on in."
Iniu led the eager hamsters into her son's home, where all of his friends
( and some of his family) were gathered for his birthday. All heads turned
to see Hamtaro & his band of ham-hams walk up to Balto. He looked down
at them in shock, then looked at his mother. She shrugged. "Happy Birthday
son."
"Thanks mom." Balto turned back to the hamsters at his feet. " What kind
of creatures are you, anyway?"
Hamtaro answered. "We're hamsters; animals sorta like mice, only not."
"I see."
Bijou spoke next. " You may not believe zis, but we are from ze future; ze
year of 2002. We have heard many pozitive stories of you & your friends.
We wish to be your friends also." The stunned dogs looked on in awe. Rodents
from the future? They sniffed & pawed & cocked their heads in wonder.
When she was able to speak, Jenna replied, "We'd love to be your friends.
I think it'll be fun." The others happily agreed. Maxwell then took out a
calculator - looking device and very carefully matched each dog to their
ideal hamster. For example, Star is very hyper, so therefore he was matched
with a hyper ham- ham, Cappy.
When that was done, Balto announced, "let's go out & celebrate!" They
all went outside & visited with their new friends. Even Steele had fun
chatting and romping around with Boss, a hamster sorta like him.
It began to get late. Balto told Hamtaro, " This has been the most amazing
birthday I've ever had." "I'm glad I could make it special for you. But I
think we'd better get going." As he gathered the others, Steele & Jenna
looked into Balto's tear-filled eyes.
"You really like them, don't you?" Steele, who had become Balto's friend,
asked softly. He nodded sullenly. Aleu, seeing her father's sad face, walked
over to Hamtaro.
"Look, I know you probably have owners back home& everything, but we
really love you guys & would appriciate it if you stayed." he thought
for a moment.
" How about we take you to Japan with us?"
Maxwell interuppted. "Japan's no place for sled dogs. How about we go to
present day Idaho instead? that would be a suitable climate for us."
Bijou was stunned. "What about our owners? Zey will be so worried."
Hamtaro looked at her. "What about friendship? Balto can show us how to live
in the wild & then we can be friends forever!" Balto agreed to this,
under one condition: No Idaho! So every dog & hamster ditched their owners
& went to the boiler room for a good night's sleep.
Everyone was soundly asleep that night. Soft snoring could be heard all around.
Everything was going great. But a little around midnight, Balto heard a strange
man walk through the door. It was the butcher. "Hey," he thought, "isn't
that the guy I robbed a couple days ago?"
The butcher came closer. "Well, doggie," he said with a rather suspicious
grin on his face.He took a look around at the sleeping animals stewn about
the place. "looks like you've got yourself a pretty big slumber party goin'
on here.but what's a party without food? I've got some lambchops I'd like
to give you to spice things up. Enjoy." He tossed the meat in front of Balto
& walked out the door.
The others, hearing the man, woke up also. Steele looked at the meat. "I'm
kinda hungry." he said, slightly drooling. The other male dogs did the same.
Balto sniffed it suspiciously. "Mmm... Ok. I guess it wouldn't hurt. After
all, it is a gift." They began to chow down.
Nikki looked over at the girls. "Hey, ladys, please come join us."
Dixie shook her head. "No thanks. We're kinda full. Remember? Jenna brought
us leftover spaghetty & a bag of popcorn from Rosie's house & shared
it with us girls."
"OK. Suit yourselves." The boy dogs chewed the meat off the bones while the
boy hamsters licked the bones. The girl ham-hams had had popcorn too so they
weren't hungry. After that, they all went back to sleep.
The next day came bright & early. The ladies proceded to wake their
boyfirends. "Rise & shine, it's a brand new day." Bijou said as she shook
Hamtaro gently. "Wake up."
He groaned and replied, "I don't feel so good." everyone who had eaten the
meat or licked the bones felt very sick & refused to get up. The girls
began to worry. The same question was in all their heads: "What could possibly
be wrong? They were fine yesterday."
Sandy walked up to Iniu, who had gone out to rob a citizen of his newspaper
a little while earlier. She looked at the anxious hamster at her feet. "What
is troubling you, child?"
Sandy replied,"Like, the guys won't get up.They look kinda sick."
Iniu looked at the ones who were lying on the floor. She inspected each one
carefully. "Ah," she said after inspecting the last one.
"What is it?" asked Aleu.
"It's poison," Iniu replied. "the meat the butcher gave us was full of poison."
They gasped. They very well knew that poisoned meat was a vicious, sick trick
played by animal haters. It was an awful killer. Some began to weep. Cindy,
who was holding Boss's head in her lap, asked "How can we save 'em?"
Iniu replied, "There's a field of a plant called lemon chives in the far
end of the forest," she said. "when my clan got poisoned by bad meat, I led
them over there to eat the plants. An hour or 2 later they'd be good as new.
it's no easy task, but if you're that determined than I'd go for it."
Jenna nodded "Let's go get those chives." The others cheered and off they
went.
