A Snowy White Pathway

The gang have been exiled for the murder of a young pup, Steele who in fact
killed it, is trying to win his way back into town, Balto and the others
are just about to leave Nome.
They sit on the cold sidewalk and look out over the vast forest, some birds fly up from a group of tree’s and the sky is a light red, the suns rays beam over the forest and touch the edge of town and shed light onto the 5 dogs awaiting their destiny, a snow flake falls to the ground as the town clock chimes it’s 8 bells. As they begin to walk off over a snow covered field.
The light from the sun fades in as the little town of Nome awakens, the light seeps over the corner of the old dumpster and begins to uncover Steele’s head.
His eye flickers and he lets out a deep groan, he opens his eye and has a look around,
Steele: Morning, Morning already, I hate bloody morning.
Dog: Hey, who’s there.
Steele lie’s quietly in the dumpster. The dog walks slowly down the alley way sniffing.
Dog: If anyone’s down here, I’m gonna find ya and tear you apart, this is my land.
Steele jumps down in front of the dog,
Steele: Oh yeh, I’d like to see you try.
Dog: by the time I’m through you’ll look like you’ve been through a blender.
Steele: Watch it Dog, coz I aint no happy visitor,
Dog: Visitor!, who are you?
Steele: To know that you have to pay a great price, are you up to it?
Dog: I aint scared of no-one.
Steele: You’d know me as Steele, now prepare to meet your doom.
Steele takes a flying leap forward onto the dog, he scratches at the dog’s face and try’s to knock him out,
The Dog wriggles side to side to try to get free, he pushes Steele away and get’s up bearing his teeth.
Steele: Not a wise move, amateur.
Steele: Look behind you.
The dog turns to looks as Steele takes the dog’s feet out, the Dog slams hard to the floor and Steele begins to circle.
Steele: No need to feel bad about yourself, there’s no shame in being beaten by a professional, now prepare to meet your doom.
Steele goes down to bite the Dog’s neck, but he quickly roll’s over and comes to his feet.
Dog: You’ve gotta be faster that that.
Steele: I’m only just warming up.
Steele jumps to a side while the dog wasn’t looking and hid in the dumpster, he takes a flying leap out over the dog and body slams him to the ground, he bites his neck and tosses him in the dumpster, he then walks out of the alley way and out towards the boiler room.
The five dog’s begin their walk out of town, an old bridge lie’s ahead, it’s covered in snow and made of stone, an ice cold fast flowing river rushes under it, the bridge is old and probably won’t last to long, the walk up the snowy path with the wind behind them, pushing them away as if even the elements didn’t want them any more, they step onto the bridge one at a time and begin to cross, with each step a little crumbles away from underneath, Jenna, then Star, Kaltag Nikki and Balto, as Nikki steps onto the bridge a large chunk falls away and the bridge becomes unstable, Balto begins to cross it slowly, more and more crumble under his feet, the old hump back bridge creaks under Balto’s swift moving paws, he run’s and jumps, his body sores above the bridge as it collapses into the raging river and is torn apart by the current, Balto almost misses the land and is back paws dangle over the rivers edge, Jenna grabs at the scruff of his neck and pulls him back onto the land.
Balto: (looks behind) That was close.
Jenna: Your telling me, you really had me worried, and were not even in the wild yet, we’ve only just left Nome.
Balto: Give it a chance every story has a beginning.
Jenna: It also has an end too.
Balto: come on were wasting time here, we’ve gotta find Nava before it gets dark.
Steele arrives at the boiler room and plans his entrance,
Steele: Ok gotta look nice, *he smooth the hair on his head back* got to do something heroic.
He grabs a small pup that walks past and slides back into a small alley way, before the pup can talk Steele hit’s his head hard on the ground to knock him out, he then scratches at it’s face, and beats him up a bit, but careful enough as not to hurt him to much, he picks up the corpse and walks outside the boiler room,
Steele: (talking to himself) No time like the present.
He bursts through the door, the few dog’s in there look startled, Steele walks slowly in and brings his face into view, the other dog’s gasp.
Dog1: Steele, you know your not allowed here, now leave before you get us all into trouble.
Steele takes no notice but walks further in, and lowers the pup to the floor, he walks around it for a moment, seeming to be checking out how the pup is.
Steele: (whispering) if you tell anyone what I did to you I will kill you, I know you can hear me, I saw you moving, tell anyone and die,
He then sit’s upright and howls, a man walks in and throws a brick down.
Man: Shut up you damn dog’s, people are trying to work out here.
Woman: Don’t be so cruel George they're only dogs they don’t know any better.
The woman opens the door and looks down the room, she sees the pup lying down by the boiler, She run’s in.
Woman: George I think this dog is hurt.
George: Stupid woman, it will take care of it’s self.
Woman: How can you be so cruel.
George: Like this, (the man leans back on his chair and swigs a coke,)
The woman picks up the pop in her shawl and walks out the boiler room door closing it behind her, she kicks her husbands chair on the way past, he swallows when she does, the chair legs slip and he goes flying backwards.
George: Oww my back.
The woman takes no notice and continues walking.
Dog: Steele a hero? Did I miss something here.
Dog2: you saw it plain as day, he probably saved that pup’s life, he’s changed.
Dog3: Steele, this isn’t the Steele I know! Something’s fishy here.
Steele: Fishy? What’s fishy?, I just saw that pup, lying in the middle of the road, and he needed help, I thought it best to bring him in here.
Dog3: Funny you should turn up only once Balto is gone.
Steele: Balto’s gone, when did this happen.
Dog1: He murdered some pup, and was exiled, amazing how good dog’s go bad.
Steele: NO! really?, Balto did that?, I always knew there was something wrong with him.
Dog2: Why are you here anyway?
Steele: I was hoping that I might get taken back into the town, after all, I did save that pup’s life,
Dog1: I don’t see why not, welcome back.
Dog3: Wait one moment you don’t run the show here, I have a say to, besides it’s judge’s decision.
Meanwhile back at the site of the old stone bridge, the gang begin to walk off, suddenly a large wave bursts down the raging river, the land their standing on collapses beneath their paw’s, they get sucked into the river, they swirl round as they tumble through the rapids, scraping and tearing on rocks, the current pulling them under, the white splashing of powerful waves against their heads, they all get knocked out after a few mins as they float down stream towards the woods. The water becomes calmer as they all float down stream, they all wash up on a small slope of mud.
Everything goes black and we arrive in the boiler room, Steele is sitting next to Judge and everyone else is in front of them. There’s loud talking going on in the back ground.
Judge: Silence, you know why were here, Steele has asked to be accepted back into the community, as you know you can’t be accepted back after exile, but he is claimed to have saved a pup’s life, is this true,
Dog1: YES.
Judge: I was talking to Steele. * Stares at Steele * well.
Steele: Yeh I saved a pup’s life.
Judge: It’s a little ironic that you turn up as soon as Balto leaves.
Steele: Yeh it surprised me to.
Judge: well, *turns to everyone else,* should he be let back.
Judge get’s a mixed answer.
Judge: Ok, SILENCE, well, I can’t let you back in Steele, because not everyone agrees, but I can let you stay on a trial basis, if you have changed, you can stay.
Steele: Well that’s good enough, thanx.
We're back in the forest, They all lay on the muddy bank absolutely soaked, Balto and Jenna lay side by side, and a forest of tree’s is behind them, Nikki is laying on the very far corner and Kaltag is a little further over, Star is still half submerged in water with only his head floating out of the water.
Nava enters and looks startled , he then looks over them then sits down and shakes his head, he walks up to Balto and nudges him.
Nava: Balto, Balto, wake up, hello.
Balto slowly opens his eye’s his vision is blurred, he see’s the outline of nava as his eye’s go in and out of focus.
Balto: (coughs) Nava, is that you?
Nava: yes, it’s me, now what are you doing this far out in the forest?
Balto: some land we were standing on gave way and we got sucked in.
Nava: I see, would you mind rescuing that dog in the water, I wouldn’t want him to drown.
Balto: (Balto looks over at Star as his head disappears underwater) Star.
He rushes to his feet and jumps into the water, he dives underneath and look’s around frantically, he see’s Star and pull’s Star’s head back out of the water, then swims towards the river’s edge and lay’s star down, his fur is dripping and he shakes himself dry, the water splashes onto Jenna and she begins to move.
Jenna: (through blurry vision) Balto?
Balto: Jenna? (he rushes over) Jenna, your alive *he smiles and licks her*
Nava: I believe your friend Star is the person who need’s attention here, he’s not breathing very well.
Star begins to cough up some more water and lay’s on his side, Balto who is still standing over Jenna is beginning to take notice,
Balto: Star are you ok?
Star cough’s a little bit more and stops breathing. Balto rushes over, he places his paw’s on Star’s chest and begins to pump water out of his system, Nava walks over to see Jenna.
Nava: Hello, Jenna.
Jenna: Hi, er, who are you.
Nava: Sorry how rude of me, I am a friend of Balto’s, and you must be Jenna, ive heard a lot about you.
Jenna: Really, *Jenna lifts her head and looks over to Balto* oh my, Star, *she walks over.* is he ok?
Balto: I think so, but he swallowed a lot of water.
Jenna: How’d he do that?
Balto: He got caught in some mud in the river, so he didn’t get to the coast like we did, so he was stuck in the middle of the river, lucky he didn’t drown.
Star begins to move, his eyes open and he look’s dazed, he stares at Balto.
Star: Balto is that you?
Jenna: Yes that’s Balto, were glad your ok.
Balto: Jenna I can speak for myself.
Star: What happened.
Balto: We got washed into the river at the bridge and swept down stream, we landed on the shore and you got stuck out there, you almost drowned.
Star: Drowned (it get’s slowly quieter) ,drowned ,drowned ,drowned.
Sir, Sir wake up, this is the end of the line, Me- HUH? Person- you missed your stop, you must get off the train, Me- I missed my stop, damn.
