I am a great fan of birds of prey, also known as raptors. My absolute favourite animal is the Golden Eagle (Animalia Chordata Aves Accipitriformes Accipitridae Aquila Chrysaetos, or commonly just Aquila Chrysaetos). There is no particular reason for it. I guess it’s just the way I am...

There are actually five different varieties of Golden Eagles:
  • the Eurasian Golden Eagle (Aquila Chrysaetos Chrysaetos),
  • the American Golden Eagle (Aquila Chrysaetos Canadensis),
  • the Spanish Golden Eagle (Aquila Chrysaetos Homeryi),
  • the Japanese Golden Eagle (Aquila Chrysaetos Japonica), and
  • the Russian Berkut (Aquila Chrysaetos Daphanea).
This Japanese site shows pictures of some of the sub-species, in case you are wondering what their difference is.

I have found a number of raptor pictures of outstanding quality on the web. Since there isn’t much point in downloading them all and putting them up on my page, too, because they are already somewhere on the web, I have collected links to these sites instead. Let me know if any of the links are dead.

Since I am also a great fan of foreign languages, even though I don’t actively speak very many, I like collecting things in as many languages as possible. Again, there’s not much point in collecting translations for the general species names (like “eagle”), because they can be easily looked up in a dictionary - instead, I have taken up the task of collecting the exact name for my favourite animal only. If you know its name in a language not shown here, please do mail me about it.

Some Stuff

Drawing
Golden Eagle (Aquila Chrysaetos) as drawn on paper with a simple pencil, then edited on a computer. A girl named Cheburashka drew this for me. Look at it closely. Would you have thought that this is the first time she’s drawn a bird?

Eagle ICQ - An ICQ Plus skin which I have derived from “Demo Skin 2”. It uses one of Robert Goedegebuur’s pictures of a Golden Eagle, and I use it with Whyrl’s font for the contact list.

TLK ICQ - A Lion King themed ICQ Plus skin which I have derived from “Demo Skin 3”. It has a picture of cub Simba on it.

ICQ Plus can be downloaded from here.

Some Links

  •
  • The birds of prey book, Robert Goedegebuur’s site. Increadibly comprehensive information on all sorts of raptors, plus some more (though smaller) pictures. Click here for information on the Golden Eagle!
  •
  • Robert Goedegebuur’s account at webshots.com, where he publishes the best raptor pictures I’ve ever seen.
  •
  • Also at WebShots, the category “Birds 4” contains a number of very good pictures of eagles and other birds, all by Tom Brakefield.
  •
  • I quite like the first two pictures that come up if you perform a search on “Golden Eagle” on this animal picture archive.
  •
  • Users on avians.net - a list of homepages by dedicated avian fans. Some of them have nice pictures on their sites. You may also be interested in visiting the IRC channel #feathers on irc.avians.net if you’re as crazy about birds as they are.
