An impatient Scar waited by the entrance to the cave while Sarabi helped
Zira with her birth.
"How much longer must I wait" Scar muttered
to himself.
After a short while Nuka ran out the cave and headed towards Scar,
tripping over himself and falling flat on his face. Scar looked down
at Nuka as he picked himself up.
"Hmm, at least she couldn't do any worse.!"
Scar thought.
Scar never had liked Nuka very much, he was the runt of a two cub litter,
but the other cub was still born and Nuka survived. Scar often wished the
other cub had survived as he was built a lot better than Nuka at birth.
Nuka was never allowed to play near Scar, and was only near him now because
Zira wasn't there to restrain him. Scar's almost hatred towards Nuka
was because Nuka was hardly King material. As Scar wondered how to
get rid of Nuka who was now becoming annoying, playing with Scar's paws,
when heard a voice coming from the cave.
"Scar, you can come in now. It's over"
called Sarabi.
"Excelent, what is it? A boy or a girl?"
"Both, there are two cubs!"
A look of glee and triumph crossed Scar's face as he walked in the
cave where Zira had just given birth, with Nuka running round his feet.
There, laying in front of Zira, were two small cubs, both blind and feeble
making little squeaking noises.
"You!" said Scar, pointing a claw at the male
cub as he pushed his sister off of Zira's leg while she washed them, "You
will follow in my pawprints and become King."
Nuka looked up at Scar with a look of muted anger. He then ran
at Scar and headbutted him in the leg, he then started to pull at Scar's
paw with his own. Scar looked down at Nuka and showed his bright
white teeth in an evil toothy smile.
"Nuka!" growled Zira "Stop it!"
Nuka stopped, but looked disaprovingly at his parent while Scar turned
round and walked out the cave.
"What shall we call him, Scar?" called Zira
as Scar walked away.
"Name him Kovu! It means Scar, and that's
a name that demands authority in these parts."
"And the girl?"
"You decide, I need a rest!"
"How about Vitani? it means To Go To War!"
"Perfect! Now, let me rest."
