Plot Production
Like any movie 'Simba's pride' Went through a lot of plot production. Here are several rumours and early script ideas.
Scar's son
As many people know, Kovu was originally going to be the son of Scar. This was then fixed after realising that he would be falling in love with his close relative Shani (Kiara's production name at the time).
Zazu's Girlfriend
In an early script of The Lion King 2, Zazu was going to have a girlfriend named Binti. Apparently she didn't get past the character design despite having 20 different designs for her all drawn up.
Simba Dies
Also in a early script, Simba was going to die! After trespassing into the Outlands in a search for Shani/Kiara the Outsiders attack and kill Simba. There doesn't really seem to be much point to it but it would have been interesting to see how they'ld pull of the death of the little lion king that everyone fell in love with in 1994.
No Outsiders?
Originally there was no plans for the group of Outsiders. Instead Zira was going to be accompainied by the hyenas.
Crystal lair
Although there seems to be no clarified information about it I still find it pretty interesting! Early storyboards and concept art show Shani/Kiara entering a strange crystal lair, quite possibly what is now the Outsider's termite mound lair (storyboard images shown in 'Proud of Simba's pride'). It's not a cave looking alittle too crystal like either, the text on the images actually state it as crystal.
