VHS vs. DVD

This page is a small comparison of the original Simba's Pride VHS/DVD released in 1998 and the Special Edition version released in mid to late 2004.

Differences

The DVD Special Edition version of Simba's Pride is a lot brighter than the original VHS version. Apart from the higher image and colour quality there are a couple of differences between the orginal VHS release and the Special Edition DVD and VHS.

Kovu's Gasp
The most noticable difference between the original VHS release and the Special Edition release. Kovu's gasp during the crocodile chace scene has been re-animated (or perhaps it was an old take?)

Special Edition release:

The end of Upendi
After the Upendi song, Kovu and Kiara are happily walking back to Pride rock singing the tag of "Upendi" before it fades in to the next shot. This scene lasts a lot longer in the original VHS release, the Special Edition has cut it shorter.

Special Edition- The special features

Compared to the 1998 DVD release of Simba's Pride which had practically no special feautes at all, the Special Edition is pretty good. But in comparison to The Lion King:Special Edition which is packed with features, The SP Special Edition shouldn't even be called a Special Edition. Regardless of how much extra content is on the DVD "Proud of Simba's Pride" is definitely worth a look. I just really wish they put the cut-scenes on it. But I suppose the main reason why Disney cut the "Zira suicide" scene was because it would disturb children. It's not going to disturb them any less as an extra feature instead of actually in the film.
