The Lion King III - Kovu's & Kiara's Pride (Fanfic written by Agnimon) Characters: (new) Aren - Unknown lion in the Outlands Kiara - new queen Kovu - new king Nala - old queen (new) Nama - Kovu's Kiara's daughter Rafiki - mystical mandrill, pride's medicine man, shaman, seer Simba - old king (new) Taran - Kovu's/Kiara's son Timon & Pumbaa - royal babysitters (new) Vanar - Vitani's Son Vitani - Kovu's sister Zazu - Majordomo 1) The end of the king and the queen The wind spreads a sad message through the Pride Lands: The king and the queen are weak. They'll die soon. Come to pride rock to see them one last time. The animals are gathering at pride rock. In front of all of them, next to the king and the queen, are Kovu and Kiara, looking very sad. Kiara (sad): Mother, father, are you ok? Simba: Kiara, our end is near. Kiara (almost crying): No, not yet... Simba: Don't worry, I'll always be with you. Nala: So will I. Simba: Never forget who you are, or you'll forget us. Nala: You're the queen. Simba: And Kovu is the king. Simba and Nala: Good Bye. Kiara (crying): Good Bye... 2) The new king and the new queen Kovu: I've never seen a great king like him dying... Kiara: I'll never forget them. Kovu: Of course you won't! They're your parents... Who could forget them. Kiara: Say, do you remember your father? Kovu: You mean... ...Scar? He wasn't my father... Kiara: No, not Scar... Your real father. Kovu: I've never seen him since I was a cub. Kiara: Oh... ...I'm sorry, I didn't know... Kovu: It's okay. Hey, let's just forget what happened here and concentrate more on our pride. Kiara: Talking about prides, I wonder if there are any other prides beside this... Kovu: It's not excluded. But you shouldn't bother about them. Kiara: By the way, did you already think of a name for the future cubs? Kovu: Er... ...Not really. You're very talkactive today, is something wrong with you? Kiara: It's nothing I think. Kovu: You can tell me everything, you know. Kiara: Well I had a bad feeling the entire morning. Not only because of my parents... I feel something bad is going to happen soon. Kovu: Don't worry, it will all be fine. You'll see. Hey, I think I got an idea for a name! Kiara: Really? What is it? Kovu: What do you think about er... ...'Taran'? Kiara: Sounds funny. It's just like 'Simba', just with a 'T', not an 'S'. Kovu: Hehe. Yeah, but at last it's more than you could think of, ain't I right? Kiara: Sorry to disappoint you, but I got a name, too. Kovu: That's a surprise. Ok, what is it? Kiara: If it's a GIRL, we could call it... 'Nama'! Kovu: 'Nama'? That sounds wonderful... ...And so much better than 'Taran'. Kiara: You think so? Well... I like 'Taran', too. It reminds me of my father. I like that name. Kovu: So it's decided? If it's a boy, we'll call him Taran and if it's a girl, we'll call her Nama. Do you agree? Kiara: Yeah. Kovu: Great! 3) The birth of the two cubs The wind is spreading a new message through the Pride Lands. This time it's a happy message: Two cubs will see the light of this world. Go to Pride Rock and welcome them well. The animals are gathering at Pride Rock once again. Rafiki is standing at the top of Pride Rock. He holds a cub up, it's a boy. The color of his fur is bright and his eye color is green. The animals are cheering. Then Rafiki holds up another cup which is a girl. The color of her fur is dark and her eyes are blue. 4) A little conversation Kiara: Wow, a boy AND a girl. I thought it may be just one cub. But two? Oh, Kovu, this feels so great. Kovu: Yeah. By the way, have you seen Vitani around? Kiara: No. Maybe she has just forgot. But it's ok. Kovu: You're right, but I'll have to talk with her later on. Kiara: Don't be mean to her. Remember, she's your sister. Kovu: If I find her, I'll talk to her... Just to be sure. Kiara: That's funny. Kovu: What? Kiara: Here, look. Taran looks almost like a mix of you and Simba, just with a lighter fur color. Kovu: Looks cute, don't you think? Kiara: Not more than you... Kovu: Don't make me laugh. I'm not as cute as you. Kiara: I love you. Kovu: I love you, too. 5) Another Cub? Outside of the Pride Lands, another new cub is born. Vitani: I never thought it would come this way. Whatever, what name shall I give you? I know! 'Vanar'. My little 'Vanar', you'll make us very happy. It's a waste that your father can't see you, but I don't know where he is. Maybe it's better, but who cares. I'm still here and that's all that counts. Oh... But how to tell my brother? It's a shame... I won't be able to see him in a while. Hiding is the best for the time being I think. 6) A lesson Nama (running into the cave where Kovu, Kiara, and the other lionesses are sleeping): Hey, father, brother, wake up! It's time to for the lesson! Kovu: Aw... It's too early for that... Can't you wait a bit longer? Taran: Yeah, let me sleep. Nama: That's not fair. You said you'll give us a lesson in being a king or queen of the Pride Lands. Kiara: Not only this, you PROMISED it. Now get up and give them the lesson they want. Kovu: Aw... You too? Okay, okay. I'm up. Taran, you coming? Taran: Do I have to? If not, I'll be staying in here sleeping. Kovu: Of course you have to! One of you two will be king or queen, but we don't know who yet, so I'll have to teach both of you. Taran: Aw... Okay, coming... Nama (jumping out of cave, happily): YEAH! 7) 'To be king' Kovu: Taran, Nama. Don't fall behind. Nama: Sorry dad, it' just that- Taran: We're tired. This way I'm not sure if I want to be king anymore. Nama: Fine. If you're giving up, I'll be queen for sure! Taran: I wonder about that. Nama: But I'm right, ain't I? If you don't want to be king, nothing's in may way to be queen! Kovu: Stop it you two. You're here for a lesson you wished for, so you should enjoy it. Taran (to Nama): Hehe. You're wrong! You'll still have to find a lion to mate with. Well, I have no problems to find a find a lioness to mate with. It's what has to be done to be king. Nama: Uh. It seems so disgustingly. Any males I know of in this pride are so mean. Er... I mean, excluding you two. Kovu: Don't worry. One of you will be king or queen. One of you must. Taran: But what if none of us wants to? Kovu: You'll understand... 'To be king' Kovu (singing): You say that's all you have to do? But you know it's not true... And soon you'll see... You need to know, you need to learn, if you don't you just can't earn, kingdom's flower... But what if you don't want to be a king or a queen too? You can do more than say 'it is done'... You decisions are not right if you don't know what holds this pride... We are more than we are, we are one! Taran (singing): I thought only I could be king, now there are so many things... I don't understand. Nama (singing): If you don't know what to do and don't even have a clue... I could help you... If I'm not to be queen, I still could never be that mean... 'Cause you know we are more, we are one! Taran: Thank you, both of you. That wasn't much of a lesson, but it will all be fine. Kovu: Never forget, your whole family will help you, as long as we're here. Nama: That's right. Father, how comes you and mother still don't know who of us to make the new ruler of the Pride Lands? Kovu: It's not an easy decision, you know. Taran: Yeah. Kovu: Both of you seem to care well for our kingdom, that makes it harder. Only one of you can. Er... That's all for today's lesson. It's still early in the morning and I'm tired. Taran: Hmmm. You can go back and sleep, we'll just be playing here. Do you agree, dad? Kovu: I don't know... Nama & Taran: Pleeeaaaase! Kovu: Okay. Nama & Taran: Yeah! Kovu: As long as Timon and Pumbaa go with you! Taran: Timon and Pumbaa? Nama: Aw... I guess we have no choice.... 8) Getting rid of the 'royal babysitters' Near a waterhole, Timon & Pumbaa are watching over Taran and Nama. Timon: Aw, it's as in the good old times. Remember, ol' pal? Pumbaa: It's like watching over two Kiara's. Timon: Two Kiara's? Pumbaa, just imagine if these two would be as wild as Kiara! What do you think? Pumbaa: Er... Nothing, I think. Timon: Well, that's an answer. However, let's eat. Pumbaa: Great idea! Later... Timon: Aw, I'm satiated. Pumbaa: Me, too. I ate like a pig. Timon: Pumbaa, you ARE a pig. Pumbaa: Er... Timon? Timon: Yes? Pumbaa: Didn't Simba say that once? Timon: Now, that you mention it... Yes he did, I think. Pumbaa: I miss him. Timon: Me too, ol' pal, me too. Pumbaa: Er... Timon? Timon: What is it? Pumbaa: Do you think we forgot something? Timon: There was something... There was something we were doing. But what was that? Pumbaa: I don't know. Maybe uhm... Er... Eating? Timon: That's right! Eating! Er... No. Wait a second. Timon & Pumbaa: The cubs! Timon: Where are they? Where? Wherewherewhere? Pumbaa: Hey, Timon. I think I found them! Timon: Oh, isn't it sweet? He's sleeping... Pumbaa: He? Wasn't there two? Timon: You're right pal! I'll stay here and watch over him. You go an search the other one. Pumaa: Okay. Meanwhile, at a different place... Nama (hunting a butterfly): Hey, come backe here! I just want to play! The butterfly flies away, Nama notices that she's not in the Pride Lands anymore. Nama: Wow... Where am I? Could it be? If I'm right, then this are the- Lion: Outlands. A lion comes out of a elephant skull. He has bright fur color and red eyes. Nama: And... Who are you? Lion: My Name is... Vanar. And this is my home. What are you doing here, Pridelander? Nama I... I don't know. I... ...Just got off the path. Vanar: This place is too dangerous for someone like you. Follow me. Nama: Wait. Can I trust you? Vanar: I never lie. I hate to do that. Nama: Er... Okay. 9) Hiding in the Outlands Vanar: We arrived. Nama: This is where you live? Vanar: I live here with my mother. Nama: Your mother? Vanar: Yeah. Mother, come out! Everything is fine!. A big lioness comes out of the shadows. Vitani: Why? Why did you bring her to this place? Vanar: This is a girl I found earlier. I just couldn't let her walk around in a dangerous place like this. Vitani: Fool. She'll tell the others that I'm here. I need to find a new place to hide soon. Vanar: Mother, you can't hide here all your life. You have to tell Kovu about you. Vitani: I decide when it's time to do so. By the way, who is that little girl? Nama: My name's Nama, I'm the dauther of Kovu, king of the Pride Lands. Vitani: Better be careful about what you say. People could abuse that. So, you say YOU are one of the two cubs of Kovu? Nama: Yeah... You know about us? Vitani: That's right, I lived at the Pride Lands some time ago. But that time is over. I can't go back right now. Nama: Why not? Vitani: I can't tell you this. Oh, it's getting late, let's all just get some sleep. Vanar, you'll bring Nama back to the Pride Lands tomorrow. Vanar: As you wish. Nama: What if I don't want to go back right now? I want to stay here a little bit longer! Vitani: You'll only cause trouble, you already did just by your arrival... Nama: Oh... I'm sorry. Vitani: Never mind. Let's get some rest. 10) Return to Pride Rock Next evening at Pride Rock. Kovu is worried about his cubs. Kovu (thinking): Was it wrong? I shouldn't even have let them go out alone with just Timon and Pumbaa watching over them. But I were so sure... He then sees Nama, walking next to an unknown lion. Kovu: Nama! What were you doing? And... And... Who is this? Vanar: Your way to ask seems rather rude. However, I'm Vanar and I found your daughter walking around in the Outlands. Kovu: Nama! Is that true? Nama: Er... He said he would never lie, so... Yes. I'm sorry dad. Kovu: I was worried! Nama: I know but... Kovu: I told you it's too dangerous for you so many times. Nama: D- Dad... Please... Nothing happened and... Please not in front of him. Kovu: O- OH. I'm sorry. Forgive me, er... Vanar. You may go into the cave to the others, if you want. I need to talk to my daughter, alone. Vanar: As you wish... Later on... Kovu: Nama... Just what did you think? You could have been killed easily. Nama: I'm sorry dad, I just got off the path. Kovu: Why didn't you just go straight back home? Nama: Well... I was kinda... Busy... Kovu: Busy...? With what? Nama: I... It... It doesn't matter. Kovu: ...Is there something you want to tell me? Nama: No. Kovu: One of you two will be the new ruler. Nama: I know. Kovu: Your mother wants you to be queen... So did I... But after today... I'm not sure. Nama: But... I don't want to be queen. Make Taran a king. Kovu: It's not that easy you know. Nama: You're repeating yourself. Kovu: I know. Well... You're safe. And also is your brother. I'm going in to sleep. Sweet dreams. But Nama didn't go inside. Vanar comes out of the cave, seeing Nama standing on top of Pride Rock. Vanar: What are you doing? Nama: Thinking... Vanar: About what? Nama: Could you imagine me as a queen? Vanar: Sure. Nama: Liar. Vanar: I never lie. Nama: Oh, that's right. I forgot. Never mind. Well... You could imagine me as a queen, but I can't. I have no clue what to do as a queen and else. Vanar: Don't worry about that. Maybe you won't be queen. It's still not decided. Nama: What? How do you know? Vanar: I heard you two talking earlier. Nama: Oh... Were we that loud? Vanar: It doesn't matter. You don't want to be queen, do you? Nama: I'm scared of it. Vanar: Everyone is scared of something. Nama: Everyone... You too? Vanar: Yes. I always wanted to form or join a Pride. But I don't know how to and... Who would join me? I don't know anyone who would. Nama: I would. This may sound strange to you, but I like you. Vanar: I like you, too. Kovu is standing at the entrance of the cave, hearing Nama and Vanar talking. Kovu: Nama, Vanar, what are you waiting for? Come in. 11) I'm not going to be king? Morning at Pride Rock. Everyone but Kovu is still sleeping. Kovu: Kiara... Hey, Kiara... Wake up dear. Kiara: What is it, Kovu? Kovu: We have to talk about Nama. It's important. Kiara: Okay, but not here. Taran was awake and heard that, he follows them. Later on, at a waterhole. Kovu: Nama seems to like this 'Vanar'. And he don't seems that bad. Kiara: You mean, you want Nama to be queen? Kovu: And Vanar as the king. Kiara: We know nothing about him. Kovu: Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. I feel he's the right one for this job. Kiara: Okay, I agree. But how to tell them? Kovu: I... I don't know. It will all be fine. I'll tell them tomorrow, don't worry. Taran (thinking): What? After all I did... They want her to be queen? I don't understand this... Wait. It's this new lion. I'm sure he affected them somehow. Kovu: Did you hear something, too? Kiara: No. Kovu: Never mind then. Taran (thinking): That was close... Back at Pride Rock, Nama and Vanar are chatting happily with each other. Taran then interrupts them. Taran: Hey, new lion. Vanar: The name's Vanar. Taran: Yeah, whatever. Can I talk to you just one moment? Vanar (looking at Nama): Would you mind? Nama: No, go on. Vanar: Sure. Taran and Vanar are walking on a path that leads away from the Pride Rock. Taran: Tell me, what do you think of my sister? Vanar: Well, I really like her. She's nice, cute and... Taran: And what? Vanar: Nothing important. Taran: You can tell me everything you know. Vanar: Okay... Well she could be a good queen. Taran: Are you sure that this is not the only reason for you to come that close to my sister? Vanar: What? Taran: Mating with the future queen would make you a king. Vanar: Are you... Jealous? Taran: Me? How could I... Just because she'll be queen and else... Vanar: She will? Are you sure? Taran: You'll see. She'll be queen, you'll be king. Isn't that what we all want? Vanar: Maybe. Vanar then looks around and notices that he's in the Outlands, once again. Vanar: The Outlands. Taran: Outlands? Oh, I didn't want to go here... Vanar: Are you scared? Taran: Me? Scared? No, never. Suddenly a big lion jumps out of one of the skulls, running towards them. Vanar: Run! Taran: W- Wait! Taran tries to follow Vanar, but he's too slow and falls behind. The unknown lion is too close to him to run away, so he decides to stay and fight, knowing that he has no chances of winning against such a big lion. The lion approaches, but strangely he don't attacks Taran. As the lion comes out of the shadows, Taran sees the lion's light fur color and his shiny, red eyes. Lion: Why are you running away, young prince? Taran: W- Who are you and how do you know about this? Lion: I'm not that much to say my name, but you can call me 'Aren'. I know much about you and your family. Maybe even more than you... Taran: Dream on. Aren: So, young prince- Taran: Taran. Aren: Yeah, whatever. Why is such an important lion like you walking around in this horrible place...? Taran: I have my reasons and you have yours, but I'm pretty sure I don't want to know them. Now excuse me, I have to go back. Aren: You're not going anywhere. Taran: I wonder about that. Taran goes right, trying to walk away from this strange lion, but Aren jumps into his way, blocking him from going any further. Taran: What are you doing? Go out of my way! Aren: I said you're not going anywhere... Taran then tries to run away, but is again stopped by Aren, who pinches him down to the ground. Aren: Now listen. You want to be king, right? Taran: Let go of me. Aren: Answer. Do you want to be king...? Taran: Yes, I do. But I can't. They decided to make my sister the queen. Aren: There's still a way you know. Taran: Really? Aren: Yeah. I could arrange this for you. But... Taran: But? Aren: You'll have to do something for me, too. Taran: And what would that be? Aren: The other lion that was with you. Taran: Vanar? What do you want me to do with him? I would do everything to be king! Aren: Everything? I start to like you, young prince. What I want you to do for me is to get rid of that lion. Taran: You mean I have to... Kill him? But... I can't do that! Aren: You say you would do everything... This is what I want you to do. Do it for me, otherwise you'll never be king... Taran: That's not an easy decision. And as I said, I can't do that. I can't kill him. Aren: Oh, I see. I think you need training... Taran: Training? Aren: Yes, training. Follow me if you want to be king. Taran hesitates, but then decides to follow Aren. 12) Where is he? Vanar arrives at the cave where Vitani, his mother, is still hiding. Vanar: That was close. But now we're save. Vanar looks around, noticing that Taran isn't there. Vanar: Taran? Vitani: You're late. Vanar: I'm sorry mother, but I can't talk to you right now, I need to find Taran. Vitani: Don't waste time by searching for him. Vanar: There was a big lion chasing me and Taran. I hope he could escape... Vitani: A big lion, you say? Vanar: Yes. Now excuse me, I'm going to look out for Taran. Vanar leaves the cave. Vitani (thinking): I won't let him do that again. Meanwhile at Pride Rock. Kovu and Kiara are standing on top of Pride Rock and they seem to wait for something. Zazu's landing in front of them. Zazu: I'm sorry, I couldn't find them. Kovu: Where could they be? Zazu: I have no clue. Then Vanar arrives at Pride Rock. Kovu: You? Where's Taran? Vanar: I don't know. A big lion was chasing us, I think he might be... Kovu: No. I can't believe it. Vanar: I never lie. I'm sorry to say, but I think Taran is dead. I didn't find him. Zazu: Me neither. Kovu: No... Kiara: Thank you, all of you. You did your best. If that's true, we can't do anything else for Taran. Now leave us two alone for a while. Zazu: Understand. Vanar: As you wish. Kiara nuzzles Kovu, trying to calm him down Kiara: I hope he's alright. Kovu: Me too. Kiara: It's getting late. Kovu: Go and sleep. I'll be looking for him here. Kiara (going into the cave): Don't worry, it will all be fine. Kovu (thinking): I hope so... 13) The beginning of the end (Some time has passed. The cubs are all grown up well.) Kiara comes out of the cave. Kiara: Kovu? Kovu: Oh, you're awake? Kiara: Are you still thinking about Taran? Kovu: Yeah. Kiara: Do you think he's alive? Kovu: Maybe. Kiara looks down, thinking. Kiara: We should prepare everything for the marriage of Nama and Vanar. Kovu: Oh, I almost forgot. By the way, where are they? Kiara: On a hunting lesson. Kovu: Hunting? Not too far away, Vanar is giving Nama a hunting lesson. She sneaks her way to Nama quietly. He ducks, Nama leaps full over Vanar and tumbles over the ground. Vanar steps over to her head, looking down on her. Vanar: You're breathing too hard. Nama: I can't lower it anymore. I did my best. Vanar: I see... Well, enough for today, I think. Nama: I wonder... That time... Are you sure Taran got killed by that lion? Vanar: It's not excluded. Nama: What if he's still alive? Vanar: Then he would already have come back, I think. Nama: Right... Vanar: You miss him, don't you? Nama: Yeah. Vanar: Me too. I didn't really know him, but he seemed to be very nice. Nama: Yeah... Vanar: That was all long time ago... Why do you have to bring that up today? We'll be married today, you know... Nama: I'm sorry, something just reminded me of him. It was strange feeling... Almost as if he would be beside me... Vanar: Must have been an illusion. Nama: Who knows... Suddenly Kiara interrupts them. Kiara: Hey you two! You're going to miss your own marriage. Come on! Later at Pride Rock. The animals are gathering. The lions and lionessess are all standing on top of Pride Rock, in front of all of them are Nama and Vanar. Then Rafiki climbs up to them. Rafiki: I were awaiting this day for a long time. It's a happy day for all of us. You two will do what Taran couldn't... You'll close the endless circle of live and save the future of this kingdom. He holds his staff up and shakes it. The animals are cheering. The lions and lionesses roar. Nama: I love you, Vanar. Vanar: I love you, too. The sun breaks through the clouds, shining at them. Nama: Isn't it wonderful? Vanar: It really is. Nama (thinking): If only he would be here... The wind starts to blow around them, delivering a message: Taran is alive. Nama: He's alive? Vanar: What? Nama: Didn't you hear something? Vanar: Uh... No. Maybe just the wind. Nama: I thought someone said that Taran's alive. Vanar: Must have been imagination. Nama: But what if it's true? Vanar: If he's alive, why didn't he return to the Pride Rock yet? Nama: I... I don't know. But I know he's alive... I feel it! Meanwhile, somewhere in the Outlands. Aren: Now tell me... Do you want to be king? Taran: Yes. Aren: Do you want me to arrenge that for you? Taran: Yes. Aren: And what do you have to do in return? Taran: I'll KILL Vanar. Aren: Now you're ready. Go back to the Pride Lands. And don't forget about the plan... Taran leaves. Next day, near Pride Rock, Vanar is giving Nama another hunting lesson. Nama (thinking): Relax... Feel the earth. Suddenly she hears a sound out of the high grass. She jumps into the high grass, leaping on a big unknown lion. They roll over a few times before he pins her to the ground. The lion seems to be smiling. Lion: What was that for? Nama: Sorry, I thought you were someone else. Now let go of me please... The lion lets go of her. She stands up and looks at him. Strangely his voice seems familiar. She notices his green eye color. Nama: Who are you? Lion: Aw, that hurt. You don't recognize your own brother? Nama (quite surprised): Brother? ...Taran? Nama (starting to smile): I knew it! But... Where have you been all the time? Taran: Far away from the Pride Lands. However, you really should improve your hunting skills. Nama: You sure must have a story to tell... She hears a sound out of the high grass again. This time it's Vanar, slightly disappointed. Vanar: Nama, what were you doing? I've been waiting over there all the time. Nama: Oh, sorry. I forgot. Vanar: And who is that lion? Taran rolls with his eyes. Taran: What a rude way to ask. It's me, Taran. Vanar (surprised): Taran? (smiling) I thought you were dead! Taran: I guess you were wrong. I'm still alive as you can see. Nama (giving Taran a little hug): We have to tell the others. Let's go back to Pride Rock. Later at Pride Rock, Kovu is still standing on top, seems to be waiting for someone. He then sees Nama, Vanar and an unknown lion quickly heading for Pride Rock. Kovu (running towards them): Welcome back you two. (to Taran) And who are you? Taran: (a bit annoyed, but still smiling) Did I really change that much? If even my own parents don't know. Kovu (happily surprised): T- Taran? (growing in happiness, giving him a big hug) Where have you been? We all missed you so much... Everyone was worried. Taran: Really? Oh... I'm sorry I made you worry. Anyways, I'm back. Kovu: It's getting late. Now, let's all go inside the cave. Your mother is waiting for you. Long conversations followed, but after some hours everyone sleeps. Except one. Vanar is still awake. Vanar (thinking): It's like a dream coming true. He's the same as before, yet somehow different... I should be happy. But why do I have a bad feeling about it? Maybe it's nothing... But I think I should be careful. Then he notices that Taran is also still awake, looking sad. Vanar: Taran? What's the matter? Taran (surprised): Huh? ...It's nothing. Vanar: Are you sure? Taran (smiling, trying to hide his sadness): Yeah. Vanar: Okay... Vanar (thinking): This don't makes me feel better... What's with him? Then he's also sleeping, keeping these words in his mind. 14) A nightmare Suddenly Vanar sees himself hanging down on a cliff. The Pride Lands are covered in clouds. Far away, Pride Rock is burning. The herds are gone. Back at the cliff, he tries to climb it up. When he looks down one time he sees his parents lying on the ground, dead. He then reaches the top of the cliff, tired to death, surely unable to hold him up any longer. Then a dark shadow arrives on the top of the cliff, grabbing Vanar's paws. It seems to help him. The shadow grows bigger and forms a lion. It's Taran. Suddenly Taran throws Vanar down the cliff. But before he reaches the ground. A bright light quickly comes out of the Outlands, carrying Vanar safely to the ground. Another shadow arrives, fighting the light. A second light breaks through the clouds, hitting Taran and the other shadow. The unknown shadow, heavily hit by the two lights, completely disappears. Taran then jumps down the cliff, looking sad. The lights are trying to catch him, but can't carry him. His sadness is too heavy. Vanar then tries to save him by himself. He tries to catch him. Taran almost reaches the ground. A lightning hits the ground, the clouds and the flames disappear. The herds are returning. Suddenly Vanar opens his eyes, quite surprised, a bit scared. Vanar (thinking): What was that? ...A dream? ...What if it has a deeper meaning... Maybe a warning... ...What's with him? He still looks sad, even if he's sleeping. ...Clouds, fire, shadows, lights... Maybe nonsense... He then calms down, noticing that everything is still fine. Nama: Vanar? What's the matter? Vanar: Huh? Nothing, just a nightmare. Nama: A nightmare? Vanar: Yeah. Never mind... Let's sleep. Nama: ...Okay. Now also Nama notices that Taran looks sad. Nama and Vanar both fall asleep soon. 15) The end Next morning. Nama wakes up, noticing that Taran and Vanar aren't there. Nama goes out of the cave and sees Taran on top of Pride Rock, looking sad. Nama: Taran? Taran: Huh? Nama: Where is Vanar? Taran: Out on a hunt. Nama: Okay. Taran then looks down, sad. Nama: What's the matter? Taran: Nothing. Nama: I can see that you're sad, but you don't tell me why. If you don't, I can't help you. Taran sighs. Taran (thinking): I can't do it. Nama: Taran? Taran (thinking): I can't do it. Nama: Taran. Taran (thinking): Not him. Nama: Hello? Taran (thinking): But how to tell him...? Nama: Taran... Vanar: What's the matter you two? Nama: Vanar? Weren't you out on a hunt? Vanar: Yeah, but strangely I had no luck. Nama: So, the big hunter was unable to get his breakfast? (giggling) Don't worry, the other lioness got enough for everyone. Vanar: Good to hear. By the way, I found a great place. Wanna come with me, Taran? Taran: Er... Sure! Nama (annoyed): Hey! What's with me? Vanar (whispering): I need to talk with him. Alone. Understand? Nama: Oh... Well, see you two later then. Vanar leads Taran to a wonderful place. A big lake, surrounded by trees and bushes. Very sunny, yet a bit shady. The birds are singing. Vanar: There we are. Do you like it? Taran: Amazing. It's wonderful. Vanar: I used to go here everytime I were sad. Taran: Interesting. Vanar: You have more to tell than you do. Why don't you tell us everything? Taran: ...I'm sorry. I can't. Vanar: Why not? Taran: I can't tell you. Vanar: What's stopping you? Taran: ...Nothing. Vanar: Then why don't you tell me everything about it? If it has to be, I won't tell anyone... Taran: I... I'm sorry. I have to go now. Vanar: No! Wait! Taran... Taran quickly runs away, almost crying. Vanar (thinking): ...What's with him...? Near a waterhole, Taran is stopped by Aren. Aren: How is the plan going? Taran: Er... Great. Aren: Good to hear. Remember, when this is finished, you'll be king. Taran: ...Yeah. Aren: Now you know where to find me if you need help. I'll stay here. Go on start with the plan. Taran: Understand. Taran leaves, slowly going to Pride Rock. Taran (thinking): I can't do it, but... I have to. Otherwise I won't be king. ...I can't do it... ...Can I? I don't want to. I don't want to be king anymore. I have to tell the others. But how? Later at Pride Rock. Nama is waiting for Taran and Vanar to return. Vanar arrives at Pride Rock. Nama: Did he tell you something? Varnar: No. Whatever it is, it seems to make him suffer much. Nama: Why don't he just tell us? Vanar: I have no clue. Nama: I know. Maybe dad will find out. Kovu (coming out of the cave) heard that. Kovu: Find out what? Nama: Didn't you notice Taran is looking sad? Kovu: Not yet. What's with him? Vanar: We don't know. Nama: But I thought you could find it out. Please talk with him. Kovu: Sure. But why do you think I can? Nama: You were a loner in your past in the outlands, weren't you? Kovu: Er... Yeah. Nama: He's a loner, too. Kovu: I'll give it a try, but I can't promise my success. Nama: Thank you. Nama and Vanar leave. Kovu still stands on top of Pride Rock, waiting for Taran, who arrives some minutes later. Kovu: Taran, come over here. Taran: What is it, dad? Kovu: I need to talk to you. Taran: You too? Kovu: Yeah. Taran: Talk about what? Kovu: You seem to be sad about something and I want to know what it is. Taran: I can't tell you. Kovu: Why not? Taran: You wouldn't understand it. Kovu: You have something you want to tell us, but you say you can't. Maybe you'll change your mind after you hear what I have say. Long time ago, when I wasn't king of the Pridelands yet, I were told to kill Simba. But after I met Kiara I didn't want to do it anymore. I wanted to tell them, but it was too late. Simba was trapped by other lions who were also told to kill him, but he luckily escaped. He then thought it was my fault, but it was not. I also lost my brother because of this. Taran: ...So you're saying that if I don't tell you and the others, I could get everyone into big trouble. Or maybe even worse. Kovu: Exactly. However, it all came to an happy end. Taran: Really? Kovu: Yes. Don't wait too long, you may regret it later. But... ...This is your decision. Tell us or not. Taran: Okay. Kovu: Don't forget what I told you today. ...And never say I wouldn't understand you again. Taran: Sorry. Kovu: Now, do you want to tell us what's on your mind or not? Taran: Better now than later I guess. Kovu smiles. Taran: That time... Before I left the Pride Lands. I heard you and mom talking. I heard that you wanted to make her queen. Kovu: That's all? Taran: No... I wanted to find out how Vanar really is. Just to be sure. But then that lion interrupted us. He chased us, but strangely, after Vanar was out of sight, that lion started to talk to me. Kovu: And what did he tell you? Taran: He told me that there's still a way for me to become king. And he would help me. He also said I needed training. Kovu: So that's why you didn't return. Taran: Exactly. Kovu: Sounds quite enticing. But you do know what you would have to do to become king in that situation, don't you? Taran: Yes, but I don't want to be king anymore. I can't do that. Kovu: Do you know where this lions could be at the moment? Taran: Hiding at a waterhole. Not far away from here. Kovu: Show me the way. Taran: Sure. Taran leads Kovu to the place where Aren was hiding. But strangely there don't seems to be anyone. Kovu: Are you sure it's this place? Taran: Yeah. Kovu: Maybe he already left. Taran: I don't think so. He should be somewhere around here. Kovu: Maybe he's at another waterhole just like this one. Taran. No! I'm really sure! He has to be here! I'll look out for him right over there. Kovu: Alright. I'll look here. Suddenly Aren jumps out of the bushes, leaping at Kovu, pinning him to the ground. Taran: Father! Aren, let go of him! Taran runs towards them. Aren raises his paw and punches Taran down. Then Vitani suddenly jumps out of the bushes, running towards Aren. She strikes him down. Kovu, quite hurt by Aren, tries to escape. Aren and Vitani are still fighting. Taran just stands next to Kovu, they both are quite surprised. Aren seems to have an advantage because Vitani is old and weak. Vitani suddenly strikes Aren down. Vitani: Give up. You can't control him any longer. Aren: How did you know? Vitani: It doesn't matter. You won't use any more lions for your horrible plans. Aren: Who could stop me? Vitani (looking quite mad): Me. She raises her paw for the final blow. Vitani: Rest in peace, dear. Shortly before she hits Aren, Taran interrupts her. Taran: No! I beg you. Don't do this! Vitani: Why not? He betrayed me... Taran: He also betrayed me! ...But killing him is not right. Kovu: That's right. He did many bad things and we have to punish him. But not that way. Leave it up to me, the king. Vitani: ...You're right, brother. Kovu: The judgement is... Exile. Aren, leave immediately. If you don't, we'll do what we don't wanted to do right now. Aren, quite surprised and a bit scared, stands up. Aren (looking at Taran: I'm not done with you yet. We'll meet again someday. And if that happens... Suddenly Kovu roars at him. Aren quickly runs away towards the Outlands. Later, back at Pride Rock. Kovu and Taran told everyone about the happenings. Kiara: I'm glad you two are safe... Kovu: There's only one thing I don't understand. (looking at Vitani) Why were you hiding in the Outlands all the time? Vitani: ...Aren betrayed me. He said he loves me. But when I found Vanar and I decided to keep him as my son he went insane. He confused many people to reach his own horrible goals. This time he wanted to kill the whole royal family. It's a shame that this insane lion is Vanar's father. Kovu (giving Vitani a hug): It's ok. He may be like that. But you are not and that's all that matters. Vitani: Thank you. A few months later. The animals are gathering at Pride Rock once again. Kiara, Kovu, Nama, Taran, Vanar and Vitani are standing on top of Pride Rock. Another cub was born. Taran: But... (whispering to Nama) ...Be sure to give him a better name than dad gave me. Nama (giggling): Okay, I promise it. Taran (thinking: Why do I still have this bad feeling? Is it because of what he said? ...Nonsense. He's been exiled, so it will all be fine. Vanar gives Nama a little hug before Rafiki arrives. Rafiki holds the cub up and shows it to all the animals. The animals are cheering. The circle of life is closed, once again. The end. - Maybe I'll write another fanfic like this one someday, I really enjoyed writing it. And we all know, the story has to go on. By the way, I will never add human elements into such a story. In my opinion it will just ruin the whole fanfic. TLK and human elements don't fit witch each other. However, that's just what I think. -> Last edit at Sunday, 18th September 2003 (11:21 pm)
