You made the Washington Times, May 1, 1995... Your page *is* a nice piece of work. -jon ---- Begin Forwarded Message ------------------------------- THE ON RAMP By Larry R. Moffitt The Washington Times May 1, 1995 ... JUNGLE FEVER Brian Tiemann at Cal Tech either needs to get a life, or he already has one. Simply put, he has devoted his existence to The Lion King (TLK to insiders), "Disney's deepest, most mature, most enjoyable, best animated, best developed...best...most...best...most...best." Not since a Barry Manilow concert have I witnessed such devotion. Cyberdero Jon Forringer clued me in to the highly unauthorized Web page where Brian and some friends have transcribed the script -- the ENTIRE script -- with all directions and annotations ("Scar swallows bird"). You will also find Mad Magazine's spoof of TLK. On a linked page, 300K zipped sound files with snippets of songs and dialogue are free for downloading. Then there are the hyperlinks to other people's Web sites devoted to TLK. And yes, this answers the other question that must have been nagging at you. There are indeed more people like Brian, enough to virtually assure that at least one of them will survive to reproduce. The only problem we could see would be with the tenacious "Disney police," who hunt down even the smallest copyright violations. When I was in Vietnam last year, a businesswoman told me about a small cottage in an isolated village where someone was silkscreening Disney characters on towels and selling them to neighbors. Sweaty lawyers in dark suits and mouse ears trooped into the steaming jungle and led poor Goofy away in cuffs. Not a pretty sight. At the bottom of his Web page, Brian poses the question: "So what do you think -- do I need psychiatric help or what?" You're asking me? Hey, I think your noodle's in great shape. Hakuna Matada. ROADMAP: Belly up to shrine at http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/~btman/html/lionking.html. All this talk has made me hungry for giraffe.
