So,here goes. Warning: This has NO CHAPTERS-only three parts. Also,I am not taking credit for all the characters, such as all the characters from the movie and the characters I used from "The Tales of Tanabi". I am very grateful to all of these works, for without them, "Kisasian's Son" would have no existance. Simba,I touch your mane. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Part 1- The lioness grunted heavily in pain and slowly shifted her weight; she somehow knew instinctivly that it was time. She reluctantly pushed herself up to all four feet and padded out across the savannah to a nearby cave. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- The lioness, her name was Ke'acha, gave birth to her son soon after she first entered the cave. She could tell immediatly that there was something was wrong with her son. His eyes were dull, a whiteish color, since he was born. He bumped into things, and when she called him, he wandered off in another direction besides straight to her. She sighed, picked him up by the scruff of his neck, and started back toward her pride. Her pride was ruled by Kisasian. She was the only one who truly respected and loved him. He had named the pride simply The Pride, for he didn't wan't to go through all the trouble of choosing a name himself. Her cub was his, but she was worried because she was afraid he would be unhappy by the way the cub stumbled around so. As she was walking, she thought hard about what to call her cub. After all, she mused, she couldn't go around calling him 'Cub' all his life. She finally decided on a very...ah....DIFFERENT name. Yes, that was it, different. His coat was dark brown, almost a charcoal color. She fumbled around with the word until she found the perfect name: Cheeko. Very soon she reached the southern border of The Pride; Kisasian hadn't always been as lazy as he was now; he had a large area to protect. She looked down at her son who was struggling to free himself from her grasp and smiled. He would be the next ruler of The Pride. When she reached Kisasians' lair, he rushed toward her, demanding to know where she had been. When he saw Cheeko, though, he stopped, stared at the cub, frowned, and glared accusingly at Ke'acha. "What is wrong, my King? Don't you like him? He is yours..." started Ke'acha. "He is BLIND!! Can't you see that, you...you...", Kisasian faltered off, only to start on her again. "He will be a burden!", Kisasian roared, scaring Ke'acha. "He is to be put into exile as soon as he comes of age. No further comments, it's final! Now GO!!!!!" Ke'acha grabbed her cub and ran off, sobbing for herself, her cub, and Kisasian's comment. Put him in exile? Never! She set Cheeko down gently and looked lovingly at him. "No matter where you are, and how bad your eyes are", she whispered to him,"I'll find you and be with you, always." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Times were hard for Cheeko. He had learned a long time ago how to find things using only his senses, but it was hard. He had learned not very long ago how to play-fight by feel. He was quite good at it, too, but no matter how hard he tried, no cub would play with him because of his eyes. He sighed. Life wasn't fair! Once, though, he accidently went past the border into King Mufasa's land. He heard cub laughter and he went to investigate. "Whoa, who are YOU?" he heard a cub about his age say. "My name's Simba!" Cheeko was shocked. Never had any cub stayed long enough to tell him their name, much less want to be friends! "Er....Hi. My name is Cheeko! Wanna play?" "Sure!" Soon a two-cub wrestling match was on! Simba always won, having a father who actually paid any attention at all to him, but Cheeko loved every minute of it anyway. Simba had said he was from 'Pride Rock'. Of course Cheeko had never heard of 'Pride Rock'. All he knew was that this was a cub...no..a FRIEND who seemed to disregard his eyes. Soon both cubs were panting pretty hard, so Simba suggested that they take a breather. Cheeko agreed, and soon both cubs were over on their backs relaxing in the brillant savannian sunlight. Simba rolled over to face Cheeko. "So, Cheeko, can I ask you a question?" "Sure!" "Well, I was just wondering.....well, you play-fight funny, and your eyes are sorta scary. So....Whats' up?" Simba hesitantly asked. Here it comes, Cheeko thought, just a joker pretending to be my friend to make fun of me. "Well, I play-fight by feel, and I'm blind, meaning I can't see at ALL." "Wow. I guess you can't choose friends by looks. Here, just slap my paw." Simba touched his paw to Cheeko's paw. "Friends?" Cheeko was surprised, and a huge grin split his face as he hollered "Friends!" and slapped Simba's paw hard. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Cheeko happily trotted back to the location of The Pride. Ke'acha saw him coming and called his name. "Cheeko, I'm over here, sweetie." He followed her voice until he felt the reassuring feel of her tongue against his fur. "Mom!" he cried. "Guess what? I met a cub! His name is Simba and he lives at Pride Rock!!" "He comes from where? Pride Rock?" Cheeko nodded. "Well,I wouldn't tell your father. He HATES Simba. "Ke'acha yawned tiredly. "Go play for a while, honey tree, mommy's tired." "Oh. Ok." Cheeko replied rather blandly, and ran away as fast as his little legs could carry him. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- As Cheeko ran, he cried, harder than he ever had before. He cried for this stupid blindness, and for his father, hating such a nice cub like Simba!! Sudden pain shot through his entire body. He had ran into a tree!!!!!! He wailed as loud as he could. "Whoa, what's going on out dere?" Cheeko heard a voice, and he immediatly bristled. He decided to trust the voice, maybe the owner could help him! "I ran into your tree because I'm blind, and now my eyes hurt really bad." He said weakly. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The old monkey gently picked up the cub and laid him in his tree. He put a gooey mixture of herbs on his eyes, and mumbled, "You just trust old Rafiki, he will help you." There was something in the voice that made him relax. Finally the herbs came off, and he opened his eyes experimentaly. The pain was gone, and, best of all, he could see!!!!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When Cheeko arrived back at The Pride, he quickly explained as best as he could to his mom what had happened. Her eyes got wider and wider until she scooped up the cub in her arms and lion-kissed him all over the face. He accepted these actions quietly, without pulling back. Ke'acha finally pulled away. "That's terrific!!!!!!!" she roared, more enthusiastic than he himself was. "Your father will be SO proud." He smiled a bright smile, and looked up at her. He tossed his small head defiantly, however, when he heard "father" and "proud" in the same sentence. He sighed. "Nothin' I EVER do is good enough for HIM." he muttered. "So you can see,eh sport?" he heard his father's booming voice behind him. "Well that changes EVERYTHING!" Kisasian rubbed the cub's head while Ke'acha looked at him distrustfully. He whispered "I'm gonna go tell Simba, mom." Ke'acha nodded, and he took off. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- He came upon the gorge Simba had warned him about. He started down, but a tremendous rumbling stopped him. He looked down, horrified. A stampede, and Simba was down there!!!!!!! "Oh, great Aiheu! SIMBA!!!!!!" he screamed helplessly. He then looked around franticly, trying to find something he could use to help Simba, but there was nothing. He saw what must have been Simba's dad, with Simba in his mouth, running with the wildebeest. Thank goodness, he thought, and started down a clear spot in the gorge, where the wildebeest were gone. He jerked his head up at the sound of a ear-splitting roar. Simba's dad was falling! Falling....the idea stuck in his head, playing over and over again, like a broken record. He quickly shook the notion out of his mind and ran down the side of the gorge, startling a wildebeest on his way down. He heard Simba yell, "Help me!" Cheeko started to run to him, but skidded very clumsily to a stop when he saw Scar talking to Simba. He picked himself grumpily from the dirt, rubbing his sore nose. What in the heck???, he thought, when he saw Simba run away. "Wait,Simba!" he called. Simba turned around momentarily, but darted away when he saw the hyenas chasing him. Cheeko sighed and started to run after him. Instead he ran right into Scar..... "Who ARE you?" Scar demanded, knowing there was a chance the cub had seen it all....after all he'd gone through... Cheeko backed up in fright. "I-I am Ch-Cheeko,s-son of Kisasian and Ke'acha, Scar ..um...Sire...er..Your Majesty." Cheeko then replied in a tiny voice, "Please don't hurt me...." Scar smiled warmly at the cub. "So you are my grandson! What an honor." Scar kissed the cub's head. Cheeko flattened his little body to the ground as flat as he could get. "And don't call me Scar. Taka is my name that my mother gave me,God rest her soul." Taka laid down next to the small cub and asked how his mother, son, and Cheeko's mother was. "Fine."Cheeko replied very shortly, making it clear that he didn't want to be here. "I'm leaving now." Taka frowned. "Fine. Tell Kisasian hello." Cheeko had no such intention of doing that, but he said ok to get out of there. He flicked his tail proudly as he strutted off, feeling very proud of himself for having the nerve to stand up to an adult. He bounded through the tall grasses which seperated the Pride Lands and...um.. Cheeko scrunched up his nose in thought,The Pride lands!he thought. He trotted gaily through the gorge until he saw what was left of the once-powerful King Mufasa. His ears and tail drooped. He nuzzled the muzzle, and then left. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Simba sighed and looked up to the stars, and then at his two friends,a warthog and a meercat. His stomach gurgled and he gritted his teeth at the severe case of indigestion he now had. He HAD to find something better to eat. Later. He looked at the stars once more. Echos of that morning still were in his mind. The agonizing roar of Mufasa, his uncle telling, almost demanding him to "run away and never return". He then thought of Cheeko. Was he watching the same stars? "We'll always be together,in our dreams" had always been Cheeko's favorite saying. Simba found that more true right now than any other time. Simba looked down to the ground, then laid his head on his forepaws and fell asleep. A smile crept across his face as he dreamed of wonderous times with his best friend,Cheeko. I wrote this part when my favorite cat,Little Bit(or Shenzi as she was more popularly known)died. She was the sister of Banzai,Ed,and Simba(No,really!). Her life was even more tragic than Simba's. Orphaned at birth, she later became crippled. Her death was under my dad's shredder when he turned it on. Little Bit got her name because she never got over 5 inches tall. She lives on in this story, and I wrote this part because we'll always meet in our dreams. I'll write more soon.Hope you've enjoyed it so far! ---Tessa Mann
